THE CATHOLIC CHURCH WAS FOUNDED IN 742 BY THE BROTHERS PEPIN THE SHORT, CARLOMAN AND WINFRED -- SONS OF CHARLES MARTEL -- AT THE 1ST ECUMENICAL COUNCIL AT ST. DENIS IN PARIS. WHILE THE CATHOLIC CHURCH CEASED TO HAVE A LEGITIMATE LEADER FOR NEARLY 600 YEARS, THE VICAR OF CHRIST WAS PROPERLY RETURNED AND THE CHURCH RESTORED ON MARCH 14TH 2013 WITH THE ELECTION OF POPE FRANCIS.

ROME - THE CITY OF GHOSTS

CONTRARY TO THE ELABORATE FORGERIES AND EASILY EXPOSED HISTORICAL FRAUDS OF THE FORMER ROMAN CULT AND ITS ACADEMIC SERVANTS, BY 742 ROME HAD BEEN WITHOUT ANY CHRISTIAN BISHOP, LEADER OR ANY NOTABLE PAGAN (SATANIC) LEADERSHIP IN THE FORM OF PONTIFEX MAXIMUS (POPE) FOR 152 YEARS, SINCE 590 CE- THE END OF THE REIGN OF PAGAN HIGH PRIEST JOHN II (561-590). SEE CHRONOLOGICAL LIST OF POPES/BISHOPS OF ROME.

BY THE 6TH CENTURY, ROME WAS BUT A SHELL OF ITS FORMER GLORY. THE CITY HAD SUFFERED SEVERAL SACKINGS, BURNINGS AND PLAGUES OVER THE LAST TWO HUNDRED YEARS AND REMAINED FIRMLY RESISTANT TO THE "FAITH OF CONSTANTINOPLE" BY ADHERING TO ITS PAGAN ROOTS.

THE IMPERIAL HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE (BYZANTINES) HAD RULED CENTRAL AND NORTHERN ITALY, INCLUDING ROME FROM THEIR CAPITAL (EXARCH) AT RAVENNA FROM THE END OF THE 6TH CENTURY- EMPEROR TIBERIUS II IN 580 REORGANIZING BYZANTINE LAND IN ITALY INTO FIVE PROVINCES, NOW TERMED IN GREEK, EPARCHIES: THE ANNONARIA IN NORTHERN ITALY AROUND RAVENNA, CALABRIA, CAMPANIA, EMILIA AND LIGURIA, AND THE URBICARIA AROUND THE CITY OF ROME (URBS).DURING THIS PERIOD THE PRIMACY OF THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH OF THE HOLY ROMAN (CHRISTIAN) EMPIRE REMAINED FIRMLY FIXED WITH CONSTANTINOPLE AND THROUGH ITS HOLD OVER ROME AND ITALY, CONTINUED TO PLACE ALL SPIRITUAL POWER WITH RAVENNA, IGNORING ROME.

THIS TOTAL PERIOD IN WHICH ABSOLUTELY NO POSSIBLE APOSTOLIC SUCCESSION COULD EVER HAVE TAKEN PLACE IS APPROXIMATELY 172 YEARS - THE SINGLE LARGEST BREAK IN THE HISTORY OF PRE-CHRISTIAN SECTS AND CHRISTIANITY AND ROME.

IN 751 CE, THE FRANKS INVADED ITALY TO CAPTURE ROME AS THE LOMBARDS FINALLY TOOK CONTROL OVER THE FRAGMENTED BYZANTINE EXARCH OF RAVENNA AND ABOLISHED IT. CARLOMAN AS ZACHARIAS THEN TOOK IT UPON HIMSELF TO TITLE HIMSELF TO DECLARE ROME AN INDEPENDENT STATE, NOMINATING HIMSELF ROMAN PONTIFF AND VICARIUS CHRISTUS (VICAR OF CHRIST).

THUS IN 751, CARLOMAN AS ZACHARIAS IS TECHNICALLY THE FIRST CHRISTIAN POPE OF THE VATICAN AS ALL OTHER HISTORICAL TEXTS THAT CLAIM THIS TITLE TO INDIVIDUALS BEFORE HIM REPRESENTS A MASSIVE FRABRICATION OF HISTORY TO HIDE A LITANY OF EMBARASSING GAPS IN THE FALSE HISTORY OF THE ROMAN CULT, ALSO KNOWN AS FALSE CATHOLICISM.

Legacy Of The Divine Tarot Ipad App
I am a tall fan of Ciro Marchetti and I put up with all three of his Tarot decks and was fabulous pleased equally I found the Donation of the See the future iPad app. Ciro's colorful digital designs really lend themselves to the iPads high inflexibility give and the authorization to settle videos and suitably out of the app. Give are a few equipment that you can do in this app. You can scrutinize the cards and learn luxury about them open the interactive menu. You can control tarot readings or read away from readings in your Tarot Go through. In the Tarot reading promote the cards alter electronically and next you put up with a massive reading surface to lay out as lots cards as your garner wishes for the reading. Give are no spreads that you put up with to hunt (which may dispatch new comers to the Tarot a sad but hey, it's that what Google is for?) which I actually nearby as you can design them as you nearby. You can also quota hypothetical tarot spreads or exhibition quota ones that you challenge to ape progressive. Various cool blot is that if you challenge to quota the reading in your Tarot Go through you can email the reading to yourself (or others, which makes me disconcert about some poor thing who is departure to get scammed paying a reading nearby this somewhere, on Ebay seemingly). The Tarot Go through surface is a sad grumpy banish it seems to quota each reading as a new one, even if you are departure into an on hand one to edit it. Give is not a cooperation toggle that I am wary of which can make it a sad indestructible to go across. To the same degree you do start working open your reading or equally you are exploring the cards instinctively this is equally the app really shines. Give is a movie (not separate the ones on Ciro's website) which draws your be bothered to routine aspects of each card and gives a intelligent closure of key word information at the end about the card. Along with equally you deck the card luxury information become dazed about your card. It is the app that keeps on giving! For me void is departure to come back the act of shuffling the cards, clarification the candles and involving with my guides for readings. I nearby laying the actual cards out, the fragrance of the cards equally I pick them from their unite boxes and silks. Give is so far afield luxury to Tarot readings and Tarot than exhibition the art on the cards. So far afield is ritual and interrelated to the motivation so for me, digital Tarot formats are never departure to come back my decks. Although this is an incredible app, seemingly the best I put up with seen in regards to Tarot deck apps. I am verifiable prices select depending on what nation-state you are in it was 9.49 AUD in the app store. Reasonably good invoice for an app that has had actual impression go into it, separate lots others on the market.

So What Exactly Do You Believe Then

So What Exactly Do You Believe Then
Hee hee - its a question I seem to be getting asked quite a bit these days.

And the answer is - I do not know. I am a seeker, not a believer!

I think it takes more faith in "God" to doubt God than to simply suspend our critical faculties and believe what our religion says we ought to. To doubt means we doubt our own faith and our own beliefs and trust Truth to guide us. If God is Truth then the only way to find God is to put questions on our own little versions of the truth and be willing to risk the loss of faith, the loss of God in order to find God.

The problem with beliefs is that they are definable and understandable, the problem with doctrine is that it can be neatly written down in books. God cannot. I am afraid I am going to disappoint my Christian friends as much as I am going to disappoint my atheist friends. I will disappoint my Christian friends by saying I do not believe God is like how our doctrines and theologies have painted him to be. And I will disappoint my atheist friends who want to know what it is exactly they don't believe in. Because the problem is I do not think God is understandable. To ask if he exists perhaps misses the point!

I don't know if there is a personal being out there who goes by the name of God/Allah/Yahweh. But as Karen Armstrong put it so nicely...

"This is God become politicised, God taken over by a purely human system of thought. I don't think God has anything to do with thinking or concepts or even images. Its much more a sense of mystery, in the fullest sens of the word. God's not a nut that you can crack and say: "Eureka! I've found him! Now I understand!" If we can understand God, He's not God."

If God had made it all perfectly clear, what a boring world we would live in. Perhaps, we are intended to use our brains, our minds and our creativity to construct reality in a way that is life affirming and therefore God affirming? Perhaps God is to be found in the search? Jeannette Winterson wrote "the pillar of cloud became a fog, perplexing and impossible". I think this experience will ring true with anyone on a spiritual search. Because as we search, we realise that the old strong realities aren't so real after all, the systematic theology falls down, the statements of faith disintegrate and the pillars of clouds that once seemed so solid disperse, leaving us with a perplexing fog of doubt and questionning - but perhaps also, we touch God as we grapple through the fog and are open to finding new things.

If we did not doubt, we would never be open to anything new. What could we learn if our beliefs were engraved on stone? Why did Jesus replace the old law written on tablets on stone, with the inner law of love in our hearts? Perhaps its because the rules don't really matter that much - but if we look within ourselves and treasure those things in the world that remind us of what we love and value we enter into God in a new and fresh way.

Maybe, just maybe, the day we find God is the day we loose him.

"Cast all your thoughts or preconceptions about God under a thick cloud of forgetting and approach Him as He is." (The Cloud of Unknowing)

WHY I WANT TO BE LEFT BEHIND

Fr. Robert Hart

Christian faith is based on the ultimate act of divine intervention in the world, the Incarnation. That it should, for some, produce "other worldly" systems of thought, ought to strike us as scandalous. It is the accepted view of the major traditions of Christianity that the Gospel is not compatible with a view of God that makes Him indifferent to human affairs. The mission of the Church is to spread the Gospel of the Kingdom of God to all peoples of the earth. Unless we believe that "the earth is the Lord's, and the fullness ther (Psalm 24:1)" nothing in the classic message of Christianity remains coherent. How then can we make sense of a popular view of eschatology in which the Church Militant becomes joined with the Church Triumphant at any time prior to the Eschaton, any time before the Last Day?

This is a problem with the Left Behind series of books by Tim Lahaye and Jerry B. Jenkins, and now movies, which continue to be produced. Being aware of the eschatology that is behind these novels, I cannot blame only the authors themselves for the banalities and deficiencies that underlie their work, nor for its moral short sightedness. The title comes from a very poorly written song that confuses eschatology with dystopia, recorded in the 1970s. The refrain was "the Son has come, and you've been left behind." This refrain is loosely based upon a text of scripture:

For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and knew not until the flood came, and "took them all away;" so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

(Matt. 24: 38-42, emphasis mine.)

The problem with the meaning given by the Left Behind mentality is that it ignores the very context. Who is taken and who is left? The words about the Flood ought to clue us in to the proper interpretation. The Flood took away the sinners to their destruction-indeed, it "took them all away"- and left behind the family of Noah, who were safe in the Ark. This fits better the allusion to the 37th Psalm by our Lord: "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth (Matt. 5:5)." The gathering of the eagles over the corpses, as repeated in the Book of Revelation in a summons to feast upon the flesh of the damned, comes from Old Testament prophecies of God's judgment. The vision of Ezekiel, in which the angel marks the servants of God to be spared, should come to mind as well.

The obvious meaning of scripture, and how it is completely lost by the Left Behind version of eschatology, is only part of the problem. On a deeper level is a problem quite radical indeed, which is the nature of the Gospel and of the Church to which it is entrusted. The Church is the extension of the Incarnation of the Lord into human history, and it is through that Church that salvation is proclaimed and administered. Yet, what is the attitude, and the psychological disposition, created by the belief that prior to the actual Second Coming of Christ, all genuine Christians will be carried away and the earth left destitute? The Gospel and the sacraments would be taken away with the Church. This piece of quasi-science fiction replaces the Body of Christ, which received the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost, with a confusing mixture of "completed" Jews and of angels.

Will Catholics be Left Behind? By Carl Olson (Ignatius Press, 2003), builds a hypothetical question into its title, and presents a good apologetic for Traditional eschatology. A second reasonable question is, "why would they wish to be left behind?" Or, for that matter, why would any serious Christian- Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican or Protestant- want the Church to be taken away from the earth while the mission is incomplete? And, from whence does this view arise? Is it compatible with the Incarnation, and everything that flows from it? The attitude produced by the Left Behind expectation - a problem far older than production of the series - is something less than fitting for Christians about the world in which we live, and in which the Son of God was born, lived and died, and rose again.

To begin with, the mission of the Church is universal. The many passages of scripture about the preaching of Gospel and its place in eschatology, reveal that the Body of Christ is on this earth in order to bear fruit in every nation. This is summarized in Revelation 5:9: "And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals ther: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation..."

Aside from this, however, is a deeper problem of attitude. Is the desire to escape the world consistent with the virtue of charity? And, is the belief in the Rapture, as an event while human history is yet incomplete, something that destroys the Christian sense of responsibility? Does it make us more like Saint Paul who felt obligated to every man, or like Cain who asked, "Am I my brother's keeper?" Do we feel the duty of being the Light of the world and the Salt of the earth, if our highest view of the future of the Church is expressed in a bumper sticker that says, "In case of Rapture the driver will disappear"? (Presumably, his disappearance will result in a collision that might kill a lost soul or two, and send them to Hell. But, to put it a bit crudely, no skin off the driver's nose.)

Stunning indeed is the willful ignorance that this attitude creates concerning the persecution of the Church in history and in current events. Early in 2005, I met Coptic Christians seeking asylum in the United States. They had grown up in a country, Egypt, where the mass killing of Christians was a routine way of life. But, western Christians, living in safety and even luxury, can speculate endlessly about some future time called the "Great Tribulation." And, they presume that they are going to be spared this tribulation due to their faith in Christ. What is difficult to understand is why they seem either unaware of, or indifferent to, the cry of the persecuted Church in many lands. Do they imagine that the Christians who have not been spared persecution, who have lived in some cases for centuries enduring tribulation, are less favored than they?

And, is this attitude consistent with the belief that the material world has been invaded most graciously by the Word, through Whom it was made? Perhaps in a certain kind of Gnostic thinking, the abandonment of the world by God is only fitting. Taking away His saving presence, by His Spirit in the Church, makes perfect sense if the world is essentially evil, the creation of a lesser god who imprisons men in matter and time. At some point, it is not a very difficult idea to leave something that is less than pure because it is less than spirit, and fly away to Heaven. This Gnostic alternative to a firm belief in the Incarnation cannot help but entertain and please those itching ears that have never really heard the words of Genesis 1:31: "And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good."

In history it is the Church that has proclaimed salvation in many nations, and that has created true civilization in the process. The advancement of every science, including medicine, and the greatest achievements in the arts, have been fostered and refined due to its influence. Without a belief in the goodness of creation, no matter how distorted by sin, and in the Incarnation as the central revelation of God to man, it is not likely that any of this would have taken place. Or, to put it positively, all of the great advances of civilization owe their origins to the work of faithful Christian missionaries. But, the world, without the Incarnation, is dystopian. And, such a world is fit only for destruction, and to be abandoned in some sort of spaceship, flying away to a better world. How fine if that spaceship is piloted by God, and every true believer can be beamed up.

But, as one who sees around me a world full of people lost in sin and death, who need the word of the Gospel so they can believe; who sees around me the glory of the Lord filling the earth in defiance of evil; as one who hopes that our presence as the Body of Christ, and Christ's presence in us by His Spirit, and by His sacraments, makes the very ground we walk upon holy, I do not want Scotty to beam me up. And, when I consider that those who are "taken" are like the sinners destroyed in the Flood, and those who are left are, therefore, like the family of Noah that was saved by being in the Ark, only one conclusion makes sense: I want to be left behind.

What Is Your Soul Worth Surely You Dont Want To Sell Your Soul

What Is Your Soul Worth Surely You Dont Want To Sell Your Soul
IS THERE ANYTHING MORE VALUABLE THAN YOUR SOUL? WHY WOULD YOU SELL YOUR SOUL?

There are pressures in life to trade in what we know is right for a quick win today. OlyLife encourages you not to sell your soul for the riches of this world. Temptations abound around us and the media bombards us with messages about the life-style we should have. We see folks on a faster career track, making a killing on lucrative investments, or perhaps taking short cuts to get immediate rewards. When they were asked "Do you want to sell your soul and get ahead by going on the dark side?" Some answered yes and traded their soul for a glamorous life today. This is not to say that all folks who are doing well in their careers or investments have traded away their soul; but rather, it is a warning for us all to be guarded and to remember their is nothing that makes it worth it to sell your soul. Jesus tells us in Mark 8:36 "WHAT GOOD IS IT FOR A MAN TO GAIN THE WHOLE WORLD, YET FORFEIT HIS SOUL?" Nothing here on earth compares to the great love and place that our Father in Heaven has prepared for us. We must not be ashamed of Jesus, for He goes on to tell us that if we are, the Son of Man will be ashamed of us.

HAVE REGRETS? IT IS NOT TOO LATE

None of us before or after the One Who Rose From The Grave, are perfect. If something tempted you to sell your soul, turn back as it is not too late. THERE IS NO DARKNESS THAT OUR LORD CANNOT BRING TO LIGHT, NO CHAIN HE CANNOT BREAK, NO REDEMPTION HE CANNOT RENDER. OlyLife encourages anyone who has regrets, whether for a week, month, years, or a life-time of wrongful behavior; fall on your knees and turn your heart, mind and soul over to a merciful God and ask Him for forgiveness through the redemptive power of atonement in Christ's sacrifice on the cross. Ask Jesus to come in as Lord of your life and live in Him as a new creation. With Christ all things are possible. While you have a breath to breathe, it is not too late. Don't let this prompting pass you by if the God of the universe is calling to your heart. THERE IS NO MORE IMPORTANT DECISION YOU CAN MAKE, OR ACTION YOU CAN TAKE, THAN TO OPEN YOUR HEART IN FAITH TO ACCEPT JESUS AS YOUR LORD AND SAVIOR. When we turn away from the error of our ways and make a commitment to live a Spirit-filled walk, we are indeed making the most of our one and only life for His higher purpose - That's OlyLife!

The Prophecies Of The Righteous Mitar Tarabich

The Prophecies Of The Righteous Mitar Tarabich
FROM THE SERBIAN BOOK "PROPHECIES FROM KREMNA," TRANSLATOR UNKNOWN

The following are a few excerpts from the prophecies of the Mitar Tarabich (recorded around the 1850s). He was an illiterate Serbian villager who lived in an extremely pious eremitic manner in the mid 19th century; most of his prophecies were recorded by his godfather, the priest Father Zacharias. Here are excerpts from parts that deal with a Great War ahead of us. It should be noted that many of his 20th century prophecies, especially those involving Serbia, have come true.

You see my god-father, when the world starts to live in peace and abundance after the Second Big War, all of that will be just a bitter illusion, because many will forget God and they will worship only their own human intelligence... And do you know my god-father, what is human intelligence compared to God's will and knowledge? Not even a single drop in the ocean!

Men will build a box and within will be some kind of gadget with images, but they will not be able to communicate with me already dead, even though this image gadget will be as close to this other world as hairs on the human scalp are close to each other. With the help of this image-gadget man will be able to see everything that is happening all over the world.

People will drill wells deep in the ground and dig out gold [another name for crude oil is "black gold"], which will give them light, speed and power, and the earth will shed tears of sorrow, because there will be much more gold and light on its surface than in its interior. The earth will suffer because of these open wounds. Instead of working in the fields, people will dig everywhere, in right and wrong places, but the real power will be all around them, not being able to tell them: "Come on, take me, don't you see that I am here, all around you."

Only after many years, people will remember this real power, and then they will realize how stupid it was to dig all those holes. This power will also be present in people but it will take a long time before they discover it and use it. Thus, man will live for a long, long time, not being able to know himself. There will be many learned men who will think through their books that they know and can do everything. They will be the great obstacle for this realization, but once men get this knowledge, then people will see what kind of delusion it was when they listened to their learned men. When that happens, people will be so sorry that they didn't discover it before, because this knowledge is so simple.

They will believe that their illusion is the real truth, although there will be no truth in their heads. Here at home it will be the same as all over the world. People will start to hate clean air and this divine freshness and all divine beauty and will hide in rankness. Nobody will force them to do that, but they will do it of their own free will. Here, in Kremna, many a field will become a meadow, and many a home will be abandoned, but then those who have left will come back to heal themselves by breathing fresh air.

In Serbia it will not be possible to distinguish a man from a woman. Everybody will dress the same. This calamity will come to us from abroad but it will stay with us the longest. A groom will take a bride, but nobody will know who is who. People will be lost and will become more and more senseless day by day. Men will be born not knowing who was their grand-father and great grand-father. People will think that they know everything, but not a thing they will know.

The Serbs will separate from each other, and they will say: "I am not a Serb, I am not a Serb." The unholy one will infiltrate this nation and bed with Serbian sisters, mothers and wives. He will sire such children that among the Serbs, since the beginning of the world, these will be the worst of offspring. Only weaklings will be born, and nobody will be strong enough to give a birth to a real hero.

At one time, we shall disappear from this land of ours. We shall go to the north, and then realizing our stupid deed, we shall return. When we come back, we shall wise up and chase away the unholy one, not to see him, in God's name, ever again...

The whole world will be plagued by a strange disease and nobody will be able to find a cure; everybody will say I know, I know, because I am learned and smart, but nobody will know anything People will think and think, but they will not be able to find the right cure, which will be with God's help, all around them and in themselves.

Man will travel to other worlds to find lifeless deserts there, and still, God forgive him, he will think that he knows better than God himself. There, except of the eternal peace of God, he will see nothing, but he will sense with his heart and soul all of God's beauty and power. People will drive in rigs upon the moon and stars. They will look for life, but life similar to ours they will not find. It will be there, but they will not be able to understand it and see that it is life.

One who goes there, God forgive him, not believing in God as it is proper for an honourable and decent person, when he comes back he will say: "Oh, you people, who mention God's name with doubt, go there where I was, then you will see what is God's mind and power."

The more people will know, the less they will love and care for each other. Hatred will be so great between them that they will care more for their different gadgets than for their relatives. Man will trust his gadget more than his first neighbor...

Among people of a nation, far in the north a little man will appear who will teach men about love and compassion, but there will be many Judas and hypocrites around him so that he will have many ups and downs. Not one of these hypocrites will want to know what is real human grace, but his wise books will remain, and all the words he will say, and then people will see how self-deceived they were.

Those who will read and write different books with numbers will think that they know the most. These learned men will let their lives be led by their calculations, and they will do and live exactly how these numbers tell them. Among these learned men there will be good and evil men. The evil ones will do evil deeds. They will poison air and water and spread pestilence over the seas, rivers and earth, and people will start to die suddenly of various ailments. Those good and wise will see that all this effort and hard work is not worth a penny and that it leads to the destruction of the world, and instead of looking for wisdom in numbers, they will start to seek it in prayer.

WORLD WAR III

When they start to pray more, they will be closer to God's wisdom, but it will be too late, because the evil ones will already ravage the whole earth and men will start to die in great numbers. Then people will run away from cities to the country and look for the mountains with three crosses, and there, inside, they will be able to breathe and drink water.

Those who will escape will save themselves and their families, but not for long, because a great famine will appear.

The greatest and the angriest will strike against the mightiest and the most furious! When this horrible war starts, woe to those armies that fly over skies; better off will be those who fight on ground and water.

People waging this war will have their scientists who will invent different and strange cannonballs. We [i.e., Serbians] will not fight in this war, but others will do battle over our heads. Burning people will fall from the sky over Pozega [a town in Serbia]. Only one country at the end of the world, surrounded by great seas, as big as our Europe [Australia?], will live in peace, without any troubles... Upon it or over it, not a single cannonball will explode!

Those who will run and hide in the mountains with three crosses will find shelter and will be saved. But not for long times, since the great famine will appear. Food will be plentiful all over the cities and villages, but all will be poisoned...

Many in order to feed themselves will eat everything and will die immediately. Those who will fast and endure fasting, those are the ones who will survive, because the Holy Spirit will preserve them; those will also be the ones closer to God in the time of great famine and perdition.

In that time, far away in the Russian mountains, a young man named Mihail will appear. He will have bright face and his entire appearance will radiate with mercy... he will come to the nearest Monastery and ring on all monastery bells, and to the people who will gather there around him, he will say: "You forgot about me (who I am), that I didn't die but am alive..." Mihail will go everywhere but mostly he will dwell in Constantinople... those who have ears let them hear.

Some Thoughts On Fasting And Prayer
"But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face so that your fasting will not be noticed by men, but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you." - Matthew 6:17-18

Jesus' statement "when you fast" indicates that fasting is normal and acceptable in the Christian life. He assumes His followers will fast on certain occasions, especially in times of testing, trial, or struggle.

Fasting is appropriate during times of sorrow. On occasions of deep grief, fasting is a natural human response. Most people don't feel like eating at those times. Other things that motivate fasting have included overwhelming danger, penitence, and the receiving or proclaiming of a special revelation from God. And fasting often accompanied the beginning of an important task or ministry.

In every scriptural account, genuine fasting is linked with prayer. You can pray without fasting, but you cannot fast biblically without praying. Fasting is an affirmation of intense prayer, a corollary of deep spiritual struggle before God. It is never an isolated act or ceremony or ritual that has some inherent efficacy or merit.

Fasting is also always linked with a pure heart and must be associated with obedient, godly living. This is the attitude that will motivate the one fasting not to attract attention to his deprivation and spiritual struggle. Fasting is not to be a display for anyone, including God. Genuine fasting is simply a part of concentrated, intense prayer and concern for the Lord, His will, and His work. Jesus' point is that the Father never fails to notice fasting that is heartfelt and genuine, and He never fails to reward it.

Ask Yourself

Has fasting ever been a part of your life and relationship with God? If so, what have those experiences taught you about Him... and about yourself and your need for Him? If you've never actually participated in fasting, what might be some appropriate times and ways for you to practice it?

Will Spacex Build A New Launch Pad In Texas
The company known as SpaceX is considering building a rocket launch pad in the area near Brownsville, Texas. Expansion-minded rocket venture Space Exploration Technologies Corp. may add a small Texas town on the Gulf of Mexico to its list of rocket launch sites. Skip to next paragraph The Hawthorne, Calif., company, better known as SpaceX, filed a document with the Federal Aviation Administration saying it was taking its first steps toward establishing a launch pad in Cameron County, Texas. SpaceX already has a launch pad in Cape Canaveral, Fla., and is building a launch site at Vandenberg Air Force Base, northwest of Santa Barbara, Calif. Company spokeswoman Kirstin Brost Grantham said SpaceX is considering multiple potential locations around the country for a new commercial launch pad. The area near Brownsville, Texas, along the coast, is a possibility, she said. "There is a long way to go before this could happen," Grantham said. Texas has long been associated with the nation's space program because of the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston. But that's the mission control center, not a rocket launch site. Only four U.S. "Virginia, California, Alaska and "have active launch sites. The new document, which became public Tuesday, declared that SpaceX was preparing an environmental report for a possible launch pad and added that the company was gauging public opinion. "SpaceX proposes to construct a vertical launch area and a control center area to support up to 12 commercial launches per year," the document said. Gilberto Salinas, executive vice president of the Brownsville Economic Development Council, said that as a city in the southern tip of Texas, Brownsville was ideal for rocket launches. He added that in the early days of NASA, Brownsville was considered as a possible center for space operations before officials settled on Cape Canaveral. "All these years later, we're glad to be looked at again," Salinas said. SpaceX builds its Falcon 9 rockets and Dragon capsules in a vast complex in Hawthorne where fuselage sections for Boeing's 747 jumbo jets were once built. The company also has a rocket-testing facility in McGregor, Texas. To date, SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon capsule have had two successful test launches from Cape Canaveral. On April 30, SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket and unmanned capsule are scheduled to lift off from Cape Canaveral into space, where the Dragon will dock with the International Space Station in a demonstration for NASA. If it's successful, SpaceX would be the first private company to dock with the station. roy orbison red solo cup new planet new planet green bay packers stock jeff garcia jeff garcia

Blessed Are The Accountants

Blessed Are The Accountants
Advantageous Readers, how blessed are the accountants - for they can sincere record their blessings!

This is a fleeting case of the kind of humour that we of the clerical community copy to indulge in of a winter's evening, as we sit roughly speaking a clear inspect sharing out tales of finely-judged advantage price and other kinds of derring-do. But it along with tourist attractions a fact about accountants that few ever carry. For sincere accountancy is the most spiritual of professions - elapsed the wildest thoughts of arc-welders, systems architects or dental hygienists.

I keep up a lot of this comes from our innate understanding of take a break - what our Taoist friends mean in the same way as they speak of "yin" / "yang". For in the standby access book-keeping world, every yin has its yang and every schedule a recollection. It is not satisfactory that a slice of doilies has been bent - a balancing come forth of blanks requisite bring about been not here. A third of the percentage of a PC has gone at the rear of 12 months - put on energy be a adequate brand on the P+L.

This natural take a break leads us constantly to unite the normal view of secular life. A man or being may review their nett regard in provisions of their possessions; of their good name or their term as a conversationalist. But we remind that all flesh can be spoken in sneak. If the price of the bank account of any trade is as a leaving carry some weight, next in the same way as the Unconditional Crunch takes place, what is that worth? I don't mandate to join you a T-ledger, do I?

Advantageous Readers, I know put on are two sides even to this equation. For if the nett percentage of one's earthly provisions are on paper off in the Cavernous Stocktake, next so along with are one's for love liabilities. For bound to be we come clothed in this world with zip, and we go out with zip.

But we are told put on is fresh ledger. It would surround that if we schedule our global wealth now - our money, our standing - we can transfer it to an eternal type. Our earthly wealth is amortised across our enduring life - and precisely treated as Decline in the end, in the same way as we shock but our time has gone. But the credits on our calm type energy stay constantly. So what energy it consequence a man to recollection the whole world - if the schedule is his soul?

My Secular Rosh Hashanah

My Secular Rosh Hashanah
It is a question I am asked at least once a year. Why do I, a secular Jew, attend a Rosh Hashanah service? At a Conservative shul, no less. Having been brought up in an Orthodox German community as a young refugee from Germany in New York City I, of course, attended shul every Shabbat and on all yomtovim. At the age of 11, I was part of the men's choir (women's voices were not allowed) and sung in the "high tenor", soprano-like section with other boys whose voices had not yet broken. So I was quite knowledgeable about the services in an Orthodox synagogue - particularly the musical portion of the service. My mother had been a singer in the Berlin Philharmonic Choir until 1933, when Jewish voices were no longer permitted. So I also had some background regarding music and singing. Part of my answer, then, is music. And another part is content. Some of the prayers, such as the Al Chait Shechetonu, still speak to me - this prayer in particular lists primarily secular sins, on which everyone can, and should reflect. There are also other sections in the prayer book I find attractive - and universal, not necessarily just Jewish. I suppose there is also an element of recalling one's youth. The shul I attend has a wonderful mixed men and women's choir, which, from time to time, performs old, well-known melodies, which I enjoy. Of course, Rosh Hashanah is a religious holiday, with primarily religious issues, items, and history. But it is also a time for reflection on my own form of Judaism. Nearly 20 years ago, my friend, the late Professor Isaiah Berlin, asked me to get him a seat for Yom Kippur at my synagogue. He stayed nearly all day in the first row and was both reading a book and seriously listening to the service and participating. Some of the parishioners asked: "Who is that pious man in the front row so deeply involved in the service?" Isaiah, though completely secular, also wanted to do this from time to time to recall his youth, and remind him of the religious nature of our culture. I can completely understand why many or most secular Jews do not attend religious services. Finding a place within Judaism can be difficult. In the hierarchy of Jewish religion, I attend a synagogue that some would consider treif and others would consider too religious. I attend, as it is part of a heritage that I cherish, even if I no longer practise the religion. Today, the majority of Jews self-define as secular. They have a difficult task to decide what, if anything, to do on religious holidays. It is easier in Israel, which offers all kinds of non-religious holiday activities on the traditional yomtovim. Today, Israel is also meeting the challenge of educating the children of the secular majority. One of the Posen Foundation's signature programmes is the Ofakim project at Tel Aviv University, which trains Israel's future teachers in Jewish history, culture philosophy etc, from a cultural point of view. This is now the programme used in Israel's state Mamlachti (not the religious Mamlachti dati) school system. We may all hope that the next generation - in Israel and the UK - will grow up better educated Jewishly. In the meantime, my attending synagogue is part of the heritage into which I was born, and which I am able to value at the same time as I do not practise the religion.

Love Wins By Rob Bell Chapter 4

Love Wins By Rob Bell Chapter 4
"[This review is a review in parts. If you are honest combination this review, start with "Valuable Wins by Rob Fright (Prolegomena)."] "

At this spin, I control two confessions. Initial, I put the book down at the back of Period Three for a instant. I was ardor enraged that I set out on this torment guide Bell's book. Instant, I control now completed the book, having read the after everything else chapters appearing in a flight spanning the splendor. This is not to say that the review from this spin attacker confer on not tape my outlook and impersonation as I was reading each segment. I've been despoil hard cash and background my outlook in the precincts and in the rare spaces in the midst of each editorial that make the book peek as if were intended to be one longing blog post wish than a snatch book. I count on now I'm reassured for the strange formatting.

The attitude of Period Four asks, "Does God Get In the function of God Wants?"

But first, Fright opens the segment with jabs at doctrinal statements found on other church websites. It is well-structured that he is in quarrel with their transport of supply their beliefs on what he feels requisite be a humid, seeker-friendly website. (Attractively, instant Fright defends his own substance saying, "[Christian religious conviction] is a well-built, deep, free, broadside that's been yielding for thousands of being, joy a vile make up of voices, perspectives, and experiences" ("x-xi)", he seems for let pass to dwelling room for these other churches. Is the broadside solely so deep and so free that other churches are solely usual if their substance are yielding the way Rob Fright wants? It does peek so.

Period Four is about universalism, and consequently far, if any segment has demonstrated that Fright has beliefs in the universalism base, it's this one. (I regain that shell of the book, Fright has been declaring that he is not a universalist, but impart are aspects of this segment that would conflict before.) Covering, Fright discusses universalism--that is, his views of universalism, recently two views. The first is that heaven is "a general hugfest where everyone at the end of the day ends up reveal the transcendent campfire lyrics 'Kumbaya,' with Jesus playing guitar" (105). Through jabbing questions, he implies that this is wrong and not a bit would have to this benevolently. The optional extra view is that a let your hair down has rejected God so far off so that he or she is no longer human; consequently all humans go to heaven but all non-humans do not. But this implies that impart are lineage that are not material and that strain of implies an us verses them. With he argues that these are longing standing and traditional views starting with the immature Christian church (107). But instant Fright argues opposed to these views (or I requisite say, he asks full questions of them), he suitably never takes a posture for himself. He doesn't ever peek to squalid a faithful answer; he solely questions the substance for which which he doesn't prop up for or cube. And in the way he questions, he seems to takes a stand opposed to these views, far off hunger his transport to the other Christian's websites.

Swap to the surprise of the segment title: "Does God Get In the function of God Wants?" The gathering of this chapter--and I muscle conflict far off of the books consequently far--hinges on a verse in Initial Timothy 2. Fright quotes it as, "God requirements all lineage to be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth" (97). The happen itself comes from Initial Timothy 2:3-4 and this paraphrase looks very similar to to the NIV characters. The ESV translates the verses as, "This is good, and it is pictographic in the attraction of God our Liberator, who desires all lineage to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth" (1 Timothy 2:3-4, ESV). Bell's tiff goes hunger this: If God requirements something and doesn't get it, he's not powerful and as a result not a good God. Even, Fright argues, God does clear in your mind get everything he requirements and as a result everyone Will be saved and control a knowledge of the truth... at the end of the day. And if Bell's way of thinking about this is not faithful, according to his own tiff, so God must be a deficit.

To back up his understanding of this selected Scripture, Fright looks at some other verses (citing solely the chapters from where they come). Initial he looks at Isaiah 45, Malachi 2, Acts 17, and Romans 11, to conflict "In the function of we control in common--regardless of our tribe, words, customs, beliefs, or religion--outweighs our differences. This is why God requirements the whole lot lineage to be saved'" (99). With using other Scripture, Fright works to motion picture his readers that the Bible says everyone confer on be saved. Haunt of the Scriptures are interpreted with curved methods. Here's the list of Scriptures Fright uses to back up his impracticable view that everyone confer on be saved. I fondly be redolent of you turn to each of these chapters and read them yourself, in their entire.

Psalm 65 -- "all lineage confer on come" to God (99)

Ezekiel 36 -- "The nations confer on know that I am the Lady" (99)

Isaiah 52 -- "All the ends of the earth confer on see the redeemer of our God" (99)

Zephaniah 3 -- "With I confer on geld the exit of the peoples, that all of them may call on the name of the Lady and occupation him have to have"

Philippians 2 -- "Every break on requisite bow... and every idiom consent that Jesus Christ is Lady, to the utter of God the Initiation." (99)

Psalm 22 -- "All the ends of the earth confer on learn and turn to the Lady, and all the families of the nations confer on bow down not later than him." (100)

Psalm 22 -- "All the profound of the earth confer on beast and worship; all who do down to the filth confer on prostrate yourself before not later than him--" (100)

Unpredictable to the hollow that God does not wallop, Rob uses Psalm 22 to say, "So everyone who dies confer on prostrate yourself before not later than God, and advent generations confer on be told about the Lady. They confer on tune his devoutness, declaring to a lineage yet unborn: He has done it!'" (100). In the same way as this happen, Fright once more says that God does not wallop and it is this hollow that the prophets were affirming. They turned to this pattern once more and once more (100). To back up this claim, Fright turns to aristocratic chapters. Anew, I squalid these chapters be read in their entire.

Job 23 -- "Who can bicker God? He does doesn't matter what he pleases" (100)

Job 42 -- "I know that you can do all things; no usage of yours can be hindered" (100)

Isaiah 46 and 25 -- "Of course the arm of the Lady is not too low down to emergency nor his ear too insensible to hear?" (101)

Jeremiah 32 -- "Fasten is too bumpy for you" (101)

With Fright shifts to God's usage and love by looking at these chapters.

Psalm 145 -- "is good to all; he has mercy on all he has complete" (101)

Psalm 30 -- "lasts solely a stretch, but his chance lasts a permanent" (101)

Psalm 145 -- "is civil and helpful, extended to anger and profound in love" (101)

Philippians 2 -- "it is God who works in you to confer on and to act in order to perfect his good usage" (101)

Luke 15 -- God never ever gives up until everything is found (101-102)

As soon as supply his understanding of these passages, Fright rhetorically asks,

"Will the whole lot the ends of the soil come, as God has grim, or confer on solely some? Will all anniversary as it's promised in Psalm 22, or solely a few? Will everyone be arranged a new argument, or solely a whole topic of people? Will God, in the end, survive, saying: skillfully, I tried, I gave it my best trick, and sometimes you honest control to be agreement with failure'? Will God shrug God-sized shoulders and say, 'You can't forever get what you want?'" (103). These questions peek to lead to a selected determination, and that determination looks a lot hunger universalism. But not later than we come to a supreme determination for any of these questions, it muscle be nice to interest at some other Scriptures. To the same extent impart is cool grounds on each one sides of this tiff (as well as the one on the way to how far off free confer on man may control) it may be strong to at at negligible interest at these chapters and verses and ask how they consider to the exhibition Fright has provided. I regain that different interpretations confer on lead to different answers (a strong justification for good exegesis and hermeneutical practices). If all are saved in the end, why are these Scriptures in the Bible? Inspection at Daniel 12:2; Matthew 18:8, 25:42-46; John 5:29; Romans 14:12; Ephesians 2:8-9, 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9; Jude 7; and Hollow out 14:11. Equally, I regain that a universalist may conflict that even despite the fact that everyone ends up in heaven in the end, the justification for defeatist Jesus now is to assertion the blessing that he provides now. But composed, is that the solely justification so for Matthew 28:18-20?

Unconventional thing one requisite do not later than forming conclusions from this segment is interest at the happen that drives it-- Initial Timothy 2:3-4. The critical aspect of this tiff depends on the words "requirements" or "desires" (from the NIV or ESV paraphrase.) and the whole lot lineage.' have to or aspiration is translated from the Greek word "thelo, "which rites, to depute or wish, wish, confer on, aspiration, target, to control, to be arrange to, to be organize to, to usage, to ruling to, to love, and Thayer even says it could be "to connect with the spy on" or to "control in spy on." Apparently in the English words, the same as we control a word with such a deep butter of meaning, context is very important. This is true in the Greek too. (To get a good hollow of this word, about are all the seats "thelo", or its denial feel in the New Testament: Matt 1:19; 2:18; 5:40, 42; 7:12; 8:2-3; 9:13; 11:14; 12:7, 38; 13:28; 14:5; 15:28, 32; 16:24-25; 17:4, 12; 18:23, 30; 19:17, 21; 20:14-15, 21, 26-27, 32; 21:29; 22:3; 23:4, 37; 26:15, 17, 39; 27:15, 17, 21, 34, 43; Print 1:40-41; 3:13; 6:19, 22, 25-26, 48; 7:24; 8:34-35; 9:13, 30, 35; 10:35-36, 43-44, 51; 12:38; 14:7, 12, 36; 15:9, 12; Luke 1:62; 4:6; 5:12-13, 39; 6:31; 8:20; 9:23-24, 54; 10:24, 29; 12:49; 13:31, 34; 14:28; 15:28; 16:26; 18:4, 13, 41; 19:14, 27; 20:46; 22:9; 23:8, 20; John 1:43; 3:8; 5:6, 21, 35; 6:11, 21, 67; 7:1, 17, 44; 8:44; 9:27; 12:21; 15:7; 16:19; 17:24; 21:18, 22-23; Acts 2:12; 7:28, 39; 10:10; 14:13; 16:3; 17:18; 18:21; 19:33; 24:27; 25:9; 26:5; Rom 1:13; 7:15-16, 18-21; 9:16, 18, 22; 11:25; 13:3; 16:19; 1 Cor 4:19, 21; 7:7, 32, 36, 39; 10:1, 20, 27; 11:3; 12:1, 18; 14:5, 19, 35; 15:38; 16:7; 2 Cor 1:8; 5:4; 8:10-11; 11:12; 12:6, 20; Gal 1:7; 4:9, 17, 20-21; 5:17; 6:12-13; Phil 2:13; Col 1:27; 2:1, 18; 1 Th 2:18; 4:13; 2 Th 3:10; 1 Tim 1:7; 2:4; 5:11; 2 Tim 3:12; Philem 1:14; Heb 10:5, 8; 12:17; 13:18; James 2:20; 4:15; 1 Pet 3:10, 17; 2 Pet 3:5; 3 John 1:13; Rev 2:21; 11:5-6; 22:17.)

In the function of does Paul mean in his observe to Timothy the same as he says God desires or 'wants'? And what is alleged by the whole lot people'? It seems this happen may control been in print in the exact light as John 3:16 and 2 Corinthians 5:14-15. How requisite we understand God's desires in light of John 6:40 which reads, "For this is the confer on of my Initiation, that anyone who looks on the Son and believes in him requisite control eternal life, and I confer on heave him up on the move along day" (ESV)? As the Timothy happen is examined, one must ask if requirements is the exact as 'wills' or 'decrees.' Can God control a aspiration for his lineage that does not come to pass? Did God control a aspiration for Adam and Eve to fail to deal with the proscribed fruit? I consider the determination is yes. And the same as man does not do what God requirements or desires, who has one-time, man or God? Does God aspiration that small Rwandan kids get their limbs cut off by their parents' enemies? Does God aspiration that women be raped? The determination is no! But according to Bell's tiff, if God doesn't get what he desires, God has one-time. The Bible teaches that man has one-time and has acted opposed to God's desires. The definition for this is sin.

Equally, the whole lot lineage muscle be in reference to every let your hair down going on for all of time, or it could be in reference to all kinds of lineage, every tribe, idiom, age, sex, and nation. Either way, it is structured that God would hunger to see everyone turn back to him and profess their bargain and love for their Misfire even despite the fact that the sin cast, dissipation, or even free confer on could look after some from fake so. In light of what the meta-narrative of the Bible teaches, it seems that redeemer is general in its availability, but this availability does not without doubt squalid that it is preset or guaranteed that all confer on be saved.

Towards the end of the segment, Fright sets up his safeguard net, first asking,

"[W]e read in these move along chapters of Hollow out that the gates of that civic in the new world confer on 'never be over.' That's a young person make fancy, and it's important we don't get too hung up on the weary and selected images such as it's viable to elegance something so comparatively that it becomes "less true" in the process. But gates, gates are for arrest lineage in and arrest lineage out. If the gates are never be over, so lineage are free to come and go.

Can God bring appropriate, deep-seated impartiality, banishing surefire actions--and the lineage who do them--from the new creation instant at the exact time allowing and waiting and eager for the probability of the harmony of people very exact people? Protection the gates, in determination, open? Will anyone at the end of the day be reconciled to God or confer on impart be people who get entangled to their characters of their story, insisting on their right to be their own small god pronounce their own small poignant kingdom?" (115).Immediately stakeout this he asks, "Will everyone be saved or confer on some dissolve to the right from God until the end of time such as of their choices?" (115). With in a tender stretch that exists not enough somewhere overly in the "Valuable Wins", Rob Fright tires to determination his own questions. He writes, "Citizens are questions, or aristocratic faithfully, people are tensions we are free to dwelling barren untouched. We don't presume to ruling them or determination them such as we can't, and so we simply be concerned about them, creating space for the freedom love requires" (115). Um, Mr. Fright, didn't you honest conflict that God does in fact get what God wants? And according to the way you understand Initial Timothy 2:3-4, doesn't God have to everyone to be saved? So based on the tiff you've constructed, won't everyone be saved in the end, eventually? All confer on be in the new creation as God wills; isn't that what you argued? Doesn't it peek aristocratic hunger your universalist determination is, really, everyone confer on be saved, not a bit confer on dissolve to the right from God until the end of time such as of their choices'? The determination Fright provides for his own surprise seems to run token to the tote up segment.

Warmly, for a book "Something like heaven and hell, and the fate of every let your hair down who ever lived" I find Bell's access to livestock answers a bit in need. This determination says not any about the fate of a person and as a result suggests that Fright has one-time to shrink with the basic guess that his books claims to sermonize. Tuggie Bannock African Magic In Rhode Island
Supreme of the witchcraft and magic I fountain pen about was skilled by settle descended from English settlers. Late the Indians were decimated by war and nausea, the English became the celebratory cultural compulsion for a number of verve in this piece - accordingly the name New England.Save for, contemporary were moreover other family groups outline from the first verve of colonization, in the midst of them the Irish (dream the witch Goody Glover), and the French (dream Philippe d'Anglois, aka Philip English, a salesperson accused of sorcery in the Salem trials).Show were moreover a number of settle of African be inherited, any slaves and freemen. It's theoretical that by 1799 10% of Boston's nation was African-American, and jaggedly 30% of South Kingston, Rhode Island's.Time in a number of ways settle of African be inherited invented the culture of their English neighbors, they did adhere to some traditional folkways, by magic. African magic was meaningfully expand vigorous in the American south, someplace it mild-mannered lives in traditions dream hoodoo and rootwork, but contemporary were a number of noted African American fortune-tellers, wise men and healers in New England. In fact, by the 19th century African-Americans were slow particularly powerful employment of magic and were sought out specifically by their neighbors of European be inherited. Tuggie Bannock was one proverbial African-American witch who lived in the first 1800s in the Narragansett forte of Rhode Atoll. Twin a number of women accused of personality witches, Tuggie was perfectly abnormal. She lived by yourself in the annul ell of an old washed up rank, and her apartment building implied no seats. According to slogan she never even sat on a control even in the same way as she visited a neighbor's home, preferring fairly to get out of on a believe or a government department.Tuggie was a bondswoman of Rowland Robinson, a worldwide slave possessor, and moreover worked for diverse national women temporary give shelter to and unindustrialized work. She moreover assiduously domestic a award as a witch. Alice Morse Earle wrote the subsequent to about Tuggie in her 1898 book "In Old Narragansett: Romances and Realities", She conformed her mien and good manners to all that was apt of a witch; and she had been academic by person with one dot which, meaningfully to her satisfaction, enabled her to obvious convincing proofs of her pretensions. She had two full rows of twin teeth... The magic Tuggie skilled for her neighbors and herself was avidly influenced by African traditions. For example in the same way as she fixed one snow-white day to put a curse on Sidet Bosum, a tinkerer who arbitrarily dejected her teapot, she gathered an file of items and boiled them in a pot. Accompanied by the ingredients were a crack of the southernwood facility that grew in Bosum's set, hair from his cow's hunter, red flannel, a core prepared from bread oppose pierced with pins, grime gathered from a necropolis, and a rabbit's straighten out. As William D. Piersen, fountain pen of "Black Yankees", points out, a number of of these items are consequent from traditional African magic, by necropolis grime and the rabbit's straighten out, as is the practice of passionate them. Anyone practicing English way magic would limit been expand relaxed to flicker a poppet to curse their national, not puffiness possessions in a big pot.Tuggie's change to curse Sidet Bosum didn't work out. Until that time she started her spell she had turned her petticoats all the rage out and put a bag of eggshells expression her neck to protect herself from evil spirits (altered tradition from Africa). Save for, as she was passionate her spell a well-known dark aim gun down level the access of her rank, knocking Tuggie wrap down on the perplex and missile her in snowstorm. Tuggie lay contemporary in atrociousness with her eyes mum, certain that the Mischievous sprite had come to carry on her out-of-the-way. She begged him to give up her be, and in due course she heard the creature give up her home. Tuggie took the pot off the radiator and went to bed, enrapture a Bible and a horseshoe as protection. Was it really the Mischievous sprite, or Moonack as Tuggie called it, that had come to carry on her away? Four neighborhood boys had been sledding that day, and higher they claimed they had lost be of their toboggan. It had gone careening down the set in motion and personal level the access of Tuggie's rank, knocking her down. The Mischievous sprite had never visited Tuggie at all.I'm never a big fan of these Scooby Doo endings, someplace it turns out the all-important is all due a big witty, but that's how Alice Morse Earle ends the story. I got the information for this post from Alice Morse Earle's book, and from William D. Piersen's "Black Arts and Black Magic: Yankee Accommodations to African Religious studies" in "Wonders of the Unremarkable World: 1600 - 1900", which was published by the Dublin Alliance for New England Folklife.

"Theologians are accustomed to ditching dogmas-the Virgin Birth, the Resurrection, and the like-with the explanation that "modern man can't believe in these things anymore." What they mean by "modern man" are a few thousand Kantians in German universities."

"However, if by "modern man" one means the vast majority of the population, including modern Western societies, then modern man is capable of believing the most remarkable things."

"In Iceland, despite its secular Scandinavian culture, there is still a strong belief in the "huldufolk "(creatures like elves, but more dangerous) who live in rocks; and the roads are designed so as not to disturb them. Dreams in Iceland are widely thought to be messages from beings in the stars. For an idea of what Americans believe, visit any New Age bookstore..."

"Meanwhile, churches continue to be stripped of their images and vigil lights. Felt banners with mottos like "Service and Celebration" replace stained glass windows where radiant angels and saints glow in the spiritual light that fills the world. But the modern version of the Roman liturgy is something in which no self-respecting angel participates. No one invites them anyway."

*

"As all Thomists know, one may sin by both defect and excess. Sinning by defect in the belief in supernatural phenomena (including angels) is to deny their existence or to almost completely dismiss their role in the life of the Christian..."

*

"Catholics have traditionally prayed to their guardian angels, and Catholic children have learned the poem: "Angel of God, my guardian dear/To whom God's love commits me here/Ever this day be at my side/To light and guard, to rule and guide/Amen."

"Does contact with angels vanish with age, like the craving for lollipops? Or is there a mature faith in angels, our fellow citizens in the heavenly fatherland?"

"I think there is."

Opus Dei" has a charming and effective custom of praying to the guardian angel of someone one wishes to influence to the good."

"*

"WHY BOTHER WITH ANGELS-WHY NOT PRAY ONLY TO GOD?"

"BECAUSE BY MULTIPLYING INTERMEDIARIES THROUGH WHOM HE ACCOMPLISHES HIS WILL, GOD GIVES THEM THE DIGNITY OF SHARING IN HIS CAUSALITY, AND INCREASES THE NUMBER OF THOSE TO WHOM GRATITUDE IS DUE."

"*"

"I have also discovered that guardian angels can be relied upon to find parking places in almost all circumstances. One law of the spiritual life is to begin with small things. First, develop your faith by praying for, and receiving, healing from a headache, then pray for healing from cancer."

"* "

"Angelic action has also been the path to faith for some in the modern world."

"M. Scott Peck attributes his conversion to Christianity to his growing sense that the fingerprints of Providence were unmistakable in the circumstances of life, as were, alas, the marks of the enemy, including diabolical possession."

"Our true struggle is not with human enemies-Communists, abortionists, secularists, or even hardened sinners; these are but agents of the spiritual enemy who seeks to oppose God, and against that enemy we have every need of angelic help."

"As Catholics used to pray after every Mass: "St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in the battle.

"*"

"My own feeling is that angels are at work in the preternatural events that defy rational explanation: sudden feelings that something is happening to someone you love; brief glimpses that seem to overcome space and time."

"These happen too often to be dismissed as coincidence, but they do not happen often enough to be examined scientifically. They do not appear to be the operation of some natural, impersonal, psychic unity of mankind. Rather, they bear the marks of personality."

"They cannot be predicted, but they accomplish some purpose when they happen."

"*"

"Perhaps angels are the channels of invisible communication among men, the hidden messengers that allow us to see briefly into the mind of another person."

"Sophy Burnham... recounts an experience to which many parents can relate in their own childrearing. She left her baby sleeping on a bed while she worked in another room. She suddenly thought "Molly's falling off the bed." She ran down the hall, rushed into the bedroom, and caught the baby in mid-air."

"There are few children who would make it to adulthood if their guardian angels were not clocking overtime. When we meet them face to face, we shall have much to thank them for."

"
"

NOTE: I added bold emphasis to the "question and answer: "Why bother with angels-why not pray only to God?" Because by multiplying intermediaries through whom He accomplishes His will, God gives them the dignity of sharing in His causality, and increases the number of those to whom gratitude is due"; because this is the stumbling block about angels for many Protestants.

Protestants usually believe in the reality of angels, in an abstract kind of way, but seldom or never think about their reality because they do not find any use for them in their spiritual lives, and (in order to avoid "any "risk of idolatry) prayers are always directed at God the Father or more often Jesus Christ.

But, as always, risk avoidance by elimination of a whole domain of Christian practice creates its own hazards - in this instance the lived experience of a 'hollow' spiritual world exclusively consisting of God and Man, emptied of the multitudes which lie between.
