That recent post on the obvious spiritual and prophetic symbolism used in marketing Monster Energy Drinks got me thinking about the 'Black Awakening' that Pastor Russ Dizdar is known for popularizing over the years, or that Sue Bradley is known for conceptualizing for Christians in her classic series of articles.

For those who don't know (or those who are afraid to step out of the Christian mainstream, if you will, to seriously discuss such spiritual realities) the 'Black Awakening' is a phrase used to describe a time in the not-to-distant-future when spiritual warfare (Ephesians 6:12) will manifest itself in this manner.

For those non-believers who have stumbled across this post, the best analogy I can give you is to imagine your worst nightmare of a societal breakdown on a global scale and what that would look like in reality. You might have been exposed to a small sampling of such courtesy of Hollywood without even realizing it.

Now, I must strongly caution you to resist the urge to casually dismiss this outright. It's one thing if you're doing so from a position of strength, or a position of faith (as in, "Who cares because if the Lord is for me, then who can be against me?" Romans :31), but another thing entirely if you're doing so simply because you think such an idea is absolute nonsense.

My dear friend, spiritual warfare is real (take your pick of verses from the Bible!), and we've already documented on more than one occasion how Mind Control is real too. Worse, history has shown that our own governments have experimented with it quite extensively.

If Bryant's book is read by enough people, it will, in my opinion, give Kenneth Lanning a serious black eye.

I just keep thinking about how likely it is that hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of people worldwide are suddenly 'switched on' to commence this 'Black Awakening' era. Lord have mercy, right?

Either way, let's rest on the truth from God's Word.

Instead, this should motivate us to not only learn how to properly put on our spiritual armor, but also how to wield the spiritual weapons of warfare that are available to us.

Trust me, we'll need them in the days, weeks, and months ahead for sure. Even if it's not the 'Black Awakening' itself that we have to deal with, you better believe that it will be something dark, something fierce, and something satanically-inspired with the purpose of trying to destroy and separate us from our Lord and Savior.

When all of us in Terra Mysterium decided several months ago to coordinate a calendar rotation for our blog posts, I was already thinking about my October contribution. It seemed an important one; weighty and significant in that, for our community, Samhaintide is the pinnacle of our seasonal observances; it is our New Year - our annual death and rebirth, bursting with passionate culmination and potential. It also marks the time for me in a personal way, through a memory in which my own magickal practice continues to teach me the greatest lesson of my life.

So, I find this opportunity to blog a happy one; it is my chance to return to and remember with reverence a time, only three years ago, when I had a very real brush with mortal death. In September 2008, a quick, potent and devastatingly efficient pneumonia found its way into my lungs through a hole in my Spirit, and brought me to my knees in a stunning realization that my core magickal belief in the power of Connection and Transformation through Intention is indeed an indisputable one. I was reminded, brutally, of my responsibility of Bringing into Being.

By October of that year, during a month-long convalescence alone, I realized that my experiences gained through my illness were sublimely timed. As I slowly healed, I wrote a Samhain ritual for my then-temple members, and against the warnings of my dear friends that I was still physically weak, officiated at the event. It was important that I make manifest my experience in the hopes that by sharing it, I would help others to understand the sometimes frightening, yet wonderful potency of this time.

And as I write this today, I am grateful once again for that chance. I am blessed with a reminder each year at Samhain, which allows me to remember that in this lifetime, I must continually strive to understand the importance of staying on task - in accordance with a personal responsibility to manifest change and renewal.
