How Do You View Aspects

This is not so much a specific question I have, more a discussion topic.

So, the concept of gods having different "aspects" seems to be taken for granted in paganism/polytheism. It's a seriously complex topic, both historically and in personal understanding.

Most of my personal practice falls under the concepts of "ancestor veneration" and "animism", working with local land spirits or household deities and such. I don't call attention from the "big" gods very much, partly because they blow my mind. My brain really wants to put things into tidy categories, so I struggle with how some people's interpretation of "aspects" conflicts with very hard polytheism.

A historical example: as time progressed Roman philosophy eschewed individualism in deities, and "absorbed" smaller local deities into larger universal ones, especially as the empire expanded.

One aspect concept: many gods change their "appearance" to reflect different parts of their personality or goals. A number of gods can appear young or old, for example, or Hekate's triplicity. Some folks call this an "aspect".

But, then sometimes Hekate is viewed as an "aspect" of Diana. Using the above description, this would mean that Hekate and all her functions are a face of Diana, rather than an individual.

And then - what of similar gods from other cultures? Where do you "split" their identities? It seems obvious that Thor and Zeus are different people. But what of Thor and Perkunas? Like the Roman's concept, are they simply locational translations of larger gods? Or are they individuals who cover similar duties for a different group of people?

I'm under the impression that Kemetics (for example) have no problem with gods being both individual and plural and mixes of each other; I believe the quote is "the gods are individual except when they're not". But I am asking more about cross-cultural PIE gods, and how they fit into this concept.

Basically, my problem is not whether the gods are or are not individuals: my problem is with the definition of the word "aspect", and how it gets thrown around a lot.

Now, I'm not one to repost material, but I just had to show you all this. It's from the Uncyclopedia, which is a reference site like Wikipedia with even less facts. In fact, it twists all the information until it doesn't even look like the original. Funny, though. Really funny. So, with that said, here's an utterly hilarious view of what it takes to be a Wiccan (be warned, some are repetitive and/or offensive):

Basically all you have to do to become a Wiccan is simply say you're a Wiccan

loudly and often. However, to further wedge yourself into the religion, you can also do the following:

Spell things incorrectly, like wynd, magick, summyr, hyjyne and for that matter, realytti with a bad imitation of Old English or Frisian style.

Hate Christians (or as you should now start calling them "Xians"). In fact you should have a general hatred for anything with the word Christ in it, including: Christmas, anyone named Christine ("Xine" being the Wiccan word for Christine, so to speak) and the word richest because it's too damn close to being an anagram of Christ. This is an especially important point, because Wicca is the biggest threat to Christianity, itself being born in a free world constructed from patriarchal rule coincidently slapped on the ass into submission from mother "obey, or no sex tonight" theology. And we all know what that means... more football.

Change your name to something with two or more of the following words: Wynd, Summer, Night, Moon, Wolf, Crystal, Breeze, Solar, Raven, Owl, Storm, Silver, Gold, or Star.

Start wearing black or purple crushed velvet.

Masturbate several times a day.

Gain about 80 lbs.

Forgoe hygiene since this is an invention of "The Evil Xtian Patriarchy".

Wear a pentagramm necklace the size of a dinner plate at all times, dress like it's halloween everyday, wear tons of black makeup, and then when someone asks if you're a Wiccan become genuinely shocked and say "How did you know?".

Claim you're part Native American, and make up some stupid Indian tribe.

Be a 'special needs student' and get your first psychiatric evaluation at age 13.

Watch a movie called "The Craft" which is a documentary on real-life Wiccans and what they can do.

Burn things, like candles, incense, gange, bits of string, yourself, but mostly gange.

Become an overweight, bisexual, and preferably polyamorous teenage girl.

Buy lots of silver pentagrams which you should try and adorn as much of your body with as possible.

Tell people vampires are real and you have proof because you use to be one until "they" de-fanged you. Then tell them how much you love human blood.

Tell everyone around you about being a Wiccan; the less they want to listen, the better. This will alienate you from your environment even more and work toward your goal of being special.

Start a webpage, preferably with a purple background and red text. Plenty of spinning pentagrams are a MUST and also as many animated gifs as you can find (of things like flames and cats). The graphics are much more important than the actual text on your webpage but if you must add actual "information" it should be in the form of a long-winded rant about how witches were burnt at the stake and about fairies being real. A MySpace account also counts.

Write your name in blood (preferably menstrual blood which you keep in a jug in your fridge) on things around your house and act surprised when people treat you like you are insane.

Prance around your front garden in nothing but a cloak and pointy hat. When people complain simply tell them that you are a proud pagan and only practicing

your freedom of religion - then break into a long-winded rant about the burning

times.

Reading information on Wicca is not as important as acting the part, but if you are ever confronted by someone who has then simply use the defense that there is no "right way" to do anything, you don't want to be put into a box or labeled and so they should stop judging you. Then accuse them of being Xian.

Burn a pentacle in your neighbor's lawn, and sacrifice their dog/cat/fish/child/flower to the gods. Then jump around and chant magic words. Cut your arm open and bleed all over the ground. The gods will love you forever. Your neighbor, however, might be a little ticked off. Sue the neighbor for persecuting your religion.

Convince yourself there is no turning back. Once you are in, man, you're in.

Above all, develop a compulsive attraction to shiny things, like little colored led crystal balls. You should develop this skill to the point where you start picking shiny metal things up off the ground without giving your hands conscious direction.

Talk about how much you're "sticking it" to the mainstream. If someone complains, scream: "You just don't understand! I'm different!" and start rambling about how everyone else is discriminating you. Then accuse them of living in a fantasy world and an illusion before you get back to worshiping trees and dirt.

Learn to be nice and polite...except to non-Wiccans, because they're inferior to your super magicy magicky majick self.

Develop a love for overpriced rocks (must have a good reason why said rocks are the "specialist" and "sacredest" of all rocks)

Spend several hours a day channeling your magick into any mundane object you can find(above mentioned rocks will do especially great)

Be sure to ignore most of the guidelines of the actual religion. All you have to do to

be a witch is say you're one. And that your family has always been in tune with nature or something like that. If your parents happen to be sane, claim you're adopted and are actually the child of [insert imaginary being which you worship].

Buy a little cast iron pot you think is majjgjick and act all spooky and mysterious when you're crushing up chalk and dried leaves from your backyard with some granite stick you bought at like, world market or someplace majjgjikky like that. Then pour wax from your burning pillar candles into the cast iron pot until it is full, and stir the dried leaves into it. Top with flowers, then let the wax mixture dry.

Charge all your friends money for tarot card readings, all the time decrying anybody that uses magickal gifts for profit.

Be sure to recognise that no matter how sodding nuts a deity acts in the mythology that they're a part of, they REALLY want what's best for you, just like the strange smelling old man that likes to offer the neighbourhood kids candy...

Make certain that EVERYBODY knows that Wicca is a life-affirming, nature-based spirituality before setting up your altar on a Tupperware container and using a crayon as a magic wand and a plastic sword as a real one because mummy and daddy wouldn't like you playing with big people's knives would they?.

Be loud and authoritative when you tell people that Wiccans never hurt anybody because it's against their religion but at the same time making sure that people better not mess with you because you know magic.

Whine about how the evil "Xtians" are intolerant, bigoted, narrowminded, and need to be all killed, starting with Mother Teresa.

Be as intolerant, bigoted and narrowminded as you claim the "Xtrians" are, but say that it's alright for you to be that way because you're Wiccan and the Goddess loves you.

Today features new and sudden beginnings. It may be hard to believe, but something will dawn on you to show that things are different in the light of today's energy. Take heart and realize that darkness that has lingered is abating. Gradually let go of what has gone. Today is about new perspectives and new realizations, but the negative end of this energy is holding on to the past despite all evidence and reason to move on and refusing to believe that things are getting better. I've been talking about this theme for two months, but today is the first day that the energy is fully in place for the re-formation of people, places, and things. The Sun moving into Libra and the configurations of the equinox set this up. If you remember way back to the New Moon in Aries last spring, I discussed how it would take until late September/early October for the full manifestation of this energy.

I generally talk about the planet and what's in play with her, but today the hero is the Sun. Any ritual or prayer of thanks to the Sun today is going to strengthen your spiritual connection and increase your level of intuition. The "dark side" (non-earth facing) of the Sun is highly active. This means that the Sun is working on our unconscious levels. NOAA estimates minimal chance for solar flares directed at us today, but we will see if the Sun decides to divert a burst into conscious manifestation. Don't get too deep, meaningful, or serious today. We will find what we need in fleeting and pleasurable moments. One final thing: the position of Mars, the planet of war and aggression (among other things), is located at a degree that outlets aggressive emotions. The best way for this to happen is through sports - in this case archery or shooting at a range or any group sport, but any positive outlet is better than an outburst or controversy. The energy must be discharged because if not, it will just shoot its way throughout our bodies and hurt us. It has the power to decimate and devastate. Be wise with this.

Let me just say at the start of this, that I am well aware that many of you will be greatly offended by this article. I know that Billy Graham, especially in his frail old age, is loved and admired by millions. But back when he was young and strong, the gospel he preached got sidetracked along his journey, and he fell in league with every manner of apostate churches like the Mormons and the Catholic Church. In this video you will hear, in his own words, about his half-century long partnership with the Vatican, and how the Pope and I agree on nearly everything.

For more than 50 years, Billy Graham has preached, believed and taught at his crusades that the Roman Catholic Church represents the true gospel of Jesus Christ. Billy Graham says in the below video I am very comfortable with the Vatican. I believe what they believe. Billy was only in his 70s at this point, so age and senility does not enter in as a factor.

In 1997, Billy Graham gave an interview with Robert Schuller of the Crystal Cathedral, where Graham said you could get saved without Jesus. Here is an excerpt:

Robert Schuller: Tell me, what do you think of the future of Christianity?

Billy Graham: I think everybody who knows Christ, whether theyre conscious of it or not, theyre members of the Body of ChristGods purpose is to call out a people for His name, whether they come from the Muslim world, Buddhist world, the Christian world, or the non-believing world, they are members of the Body of Christ, because theyve been called by God. They may not even know the name of Jesusand I think they are saved, and that they are going to be in heaven with us.

Billy Graham said that it makes no difference what church you belong to, none at all. He places no difference between a fundamental Baptist church, the Catholic Church, or the Mormon church.

Robert Schuller (overjoyed): What I hear you saying is that its possible for Jesus Christ to come into human hearts and soul and life even if theyve been born into darkness and never had exposure to the Bible. Is that a correct interpretation of what you are saying?

Billy Graham: Yes it is, because I believe that. Ive met people in various parts of the worldthat have never seen a Bible or heard about a Bible, and never heard of Jesus, but theyve believed in their hearts that there was a God.

Billy Graham, since the late 1950s, has preached out of both sides of his mouth. On one hand, he preaches that we get saved by Jesus Christ alone, and then says that the doctrines of Mormonism, Catholicism and Christianity are all compatible. At his crusades, when a Catholic, Mormon, Jehovahs Witness made a profession of salvation in Jesus Christ, his crusade workers were under strict orders to send that person back to whatever church they came from. Billy Graham declared, Anyone who makes a decision at our meetings isreferred to a local clergymanProtestant, Catholic or Jewish. (San Francisco News, November 11, 1957)

Billy Graham refuses to defend the Bible as the inerrant Word of God. Newsweek magazine, April 26, 1982, examined the debate on the issue of Biblical infallibility. The article noted that Billy Graham is not on the side of inerrancy: Billy Graham, for one, clearly is not. I believe the Bible is the inspired, authoritative word of God, Graham says, but I dont use the word inerrant because its become a brittle divisive word.'

One reason for the huge worldwide success of the Billy Graham Ministry is found in Billys own willingness to compromise the truth of the scripture to gain favor with the rich and powerful. Once the Vatican knew that he would defend false Catholic teachings, Graham was set for life with speaking engagements, financial success and political favor. For over 50 years, Billy Graham has surrounded himself with leaders from nearly every false and pagan religion, never preaching against their false doctrines, being everyones friend and buddy. Go back and tell me if you have read or seen anything, anywhere, any time where Billy Graham took a stand on bible doctrine after 1957. It doesnt exist because he never did.
