Wednesday In The Word The Honor Of Homemaking

I apologize for this being so late today! I knew I had one more writing assignment toward the "end" of September, but I didn't note the exact date. Today I have two medical appointments in addition to getting the house ready for Bible study tonight, which is held in our home each week. Then there was this pesky little thought in my head that maybe it was the 22nd that I was supposed to post? So after I finished some had-to-be-done things, I checked, and sure enough, it was my day. So I apologize for not planning ahead and checking on that sooner!

As a result of not planning ahead, I had to look through some things I've written in the past for publishing today. What I found was actually a devotional written by a friend of mine who manages an online forum for fundamental Baptist ladies, Women at the Well. I asked her permission to publish this several years ago on another blog I had at the time. I hope you'll be blessed by it as I was when she first wrote it!

You can rule your home with the mindset that this is an HONOR, or with a mindset of RESENTMENT. Either way you can get the 'job' done but oh how much better it is when you look at that washing, cleaning, preparing, etc as unto the Lord, unto your family.

The orderliness of Rahab's housekeeping in Joshua 2:6 is a testimony of a virtuous woman working willingly with her hands (Prov. 31:13). Whatever our hands find to do, we must do it with all our might (Eccl. 9:10). This is our reasonable service.

Years ago a woman was disgraced if her home was constantly messy! I remember that with my own mom don't you? She knew it was a reflection upon her character and she took PRIDE in her home. Now we find in Christian circles that women use the excuse of ministering, be it to the world, the church, etc... We all look at what the Prov. 31 woman IS TO DO but let's consider for a moment here what it does not list as things she does NOT do... She does not teach or host Bible studies, or have a ladies prayer meeting. She is not constantly door knocking, etc. I'm not saying any of this is against what God means for us in our Christian walk; HOWEVER, what God says should take precedence. Is what we DO found in Prov. 31?

Do you see yourself in any of this? Ladies, don't spend more time making excuses or justifying or making apologies than getting this thing right with GOD.

There is a growing need for strong churches, but it is not possible to have strong churches without strong homes. Atoms Explained In Vedas

It has become a tradition to believe that science originated in the Greek con-federation. Not only this, they take Dalton as the pioneer. The great Indian sages working scientifically and logically awakened their rtambhara prajHd (purest intellect) not only to propound the philosophy about the self, but also to prescribe the proper technology to achieve the desired aim. KANADA is associated with the atomic theory. The smallest state of matter is PARAMANU (atom) and the largest state is called 'MAHAT' (self sense). Before becoming manifest in the form of matter, atoms make primary combinations to make diads and triads.

CHARAKA postulated that "atom is the smallest particle of matter and air and action (energy) are responsible for the combination and separation of atoms". ASTANGA SARIA believes that "active air is responsible for the combination and separation of atoms". On breaking the matter it goes on breaking into smaller particles until we reach a point where further sub-division is not possible. Such state is known as the atomic state. NYAYAS believes that the atoms of earth, water, fire and air are different from one another. They are spherical in natures. Since they have a shape, they can combine with other atoms around' them.

Now,

Some Buddhist thinkers conceive of atom as the minutest particle capable of occupying space (Van der Waal's concept). According to them it also remains for the minutest duration of time, coming into being and vanishing almost in an instant only to be succeeded by another atom caused by the first. This concept resembles Planck's quantum theory.

"BUDDHISTS AND AJIVIKAS" believe that in normal condition, no atom exists by itself; rather they exist in a variety of combinations that includes "SAMGHATA OR KALAPA";

Every unit of combination contains one atom of all the four types of elements (they do not take akasa as an element) and obtains its character from the predominance of an elemental character. This accounts for the fact that matter shows characteristics of more than one element. Thus, wax may melt and also burn, because it is a samghata of elements of water and fire. The elements cohere in a samghata by virtue of the atoms of water acting as an adhesive.

According to Jain concept of PUDGAL (MATTER) many atoms combine together to make a SKANDA (COMPOUND) which is matter joined together. The attributes of each atom when combined together go to make the attributes of the compound. These pudgal (atoms) are called skanda (compound) as long as they are held together by their binding power. The composition and the distribution of these skandas depend on their binding power and power of differentiation (BHEDA SAKTI) which are of six types, viz, "GROSS, GROSSER, VERY GROSS, SUBTLE, SUBTLER AND VERY SUBTLE". These atoms are perennial, but still they can be created and consumed.

VERY GROSS : ATI STHULA - Those substances that do not recombine by themselves after separation, e.g. wood, stone.

GROSS : sthula - Those substances that recombine after separation, e.g. water, milk, oil, etc.

GROSS-SUBTLE : sthula - sukshma - Those that appear to be gross but cannot be held, e.g. shadow, darkness.

SUBTLE-SUBTLE - Those which are subtle but appear to be gross, e.g. taste, smell, touch, etc.

SUBTLE - sukshma - Lose that cannot be felt by the body, e.g. karma.

VERY SUBTLE - ati sukshma - Those that are smaller than karma vary minute aggregate (DUSNUK SKANDHA).

ATOM FROM VEDA TO DATE:

The Greek philosopher DEMOCRITUS developed a concept of atom which was later revised by Dalton in 1803 to account for the observation that elements combine in certain definite proportions by weight. The Daltonian atom was very much different from the version of Democritus, but essentially the same as that developed by KANADA in India in 600 B.C. From the writings of the first European Greek Hesiod about the evolution of earth, it appears that even in the ninth century B.c. Greek thoughts were very much in line with those in India.

Wicken writes that "The science never got any final answer for what matter is" but proceeds through a tension of empirical facts and theoretical concept to progressively more powerful and general ways of explaining its behavior." An answer to all these questions was given by the Vedas long back.

Life, Matter and Universe

In recent years scientists of many disciplines have devoted considerable attention to the study of the relation of life with matter Virtually all these studies are based on the assumption that life is a manifestation of matter. These scientists postulated a primordial chemical soup of small and simple molecules and they imagined that in the course of time under the influence of chance and mechanical laws, life generated itself from the atoms and molecules.

Copernicus, Galileo, Kepler and Newton were pioneers in the study of gross material phenomena, such as planetary motions. Among the more enthusiastic ones, the French scientist Pierre de Laplace believed that the universe was made of atomic particles.

He claimed that for a given position and velocity of these particles, he could at least in principle calculate the entire past and future of the universe. To under-stand all the natural phenomena and the relationships existing between life, matter and universe a scientist should involve himself in nothing but a study of the simple pushes and pulls between particles. One might well wonder whether mere pushes and pulls can be solely responsible for all the diverse aspects of the world and ourselves that we experience in Iife.

ATOMIC STRUCTURE:

The Vedic seers tried to symbolize the various attributes of matter in terms of individuals, e.g. heat, energy and radiations represented by Agni, light by Surya, lightning by Apsara, electricity by Indra, etc. Satapatha, Susruta, Taittiriya and other treatise, visualized the whole world as composed of two basic elements, viz. Agni and Some. These were represented by different names as the two Asvins: Mitta and Varuna, Ravi and Prana, Brahma and Ksatra, the horses of Indra and Aditi. This thought became so much prevalent in ancient India that it was mentioned in later Sanskrit books of sectarian type.

The attributes of Asvins which pervade everything are given as rasa and jyoti which are again identical with Agni and Soma. They are described as carry (possessing different and opposite characters), sakhya (friends of having attraction for each other) and ultimate elements of the world.

Similarly, MITRA AND VARUNA - BRAHMA AND KSATRA, RAYI AND PRANA are identical with Soma and Agni. Aditi is identical with matter and its two-fold character suggests that it is composed of only two basic elements. Soma has come out of Aditi(matter).

The dual character of matter in later times assumed the character of good or evil. Day and night and was symbolized by sun and moon which in their turn are again Agni and Soma. Agni and Soma are related to the two horses of Indra and their power.

TECNOPAGANISMO Y TECNOCHAMANISMO - EL NETLORE: FOLCLORE DE LA RED

En el 2001 se calculaba que un 25% de la poblaci'on internauta, unos 28 millones de personas, hab'ia usado alguna vez Internet con prop'ositos espirituales. La red es una reserva espiritual sin jerarqu'ia ni instituciones donde todos los misterios pueden ser descubiertos de forma subjetiva; de hecho la invisibilidad del ciberespacio y su ubicuidad aproxima este mundo a la misma idea de Dios.

Las webs de las iglesias oficiales como "catholic.net" advierten de que Internet es un escaparate ideal para las sectas peligrosas; por ejemplo, en 1997 treinta y nueve miembros de La Puerta del Cielo se suicidaron siguiendo las ense~nanzas que esta secta publicaba en su p'agina web. Otras muchas sectas cuelgan sus ense~nanzas en l'inea y contactan as'i con nuevos miembros, algunas de las m'as activas virtualmente son la Hare Krishna, la Iglesia de la Cienciolog'ia, el Movimiento Raeliano y el movimiento chino Falung Gong.

Internet tambi'en ha cobijado sectas antirreligiosas o directamente sat'anicas como La Primera Iglesia de Sat'an o La Iglesia Sat'anica del famoso Anton LaVey.

Y, sin embargo, Internet no es s'olo un mero escaparate de viejas creencias, sino una f'abrica de nuevas religiones populares. As'i, hay varios movimientos espirituales que han empezado a considerar como su creencia principal que Dios est'a en la red. Primeramente, en los a~nos 90, se configuraron movimientos que propon'ian una renovaci'on de la psicodelia de los 60 pero en versi'on inform'atica y digital en la que las viejas drogas tomadas en grandes conciertos eran sustituidas por experiencias m'isticas inducidas por la ingesta de drogas en raves multitudinarias: es la ciberdelia.

Los hackers Deadhead (seguidores de la banda The Greatful Dead), los ravers del desierto, los tecnopaganos (los m'as m'isticos, y de los que se hablar'a con detenimiento m'as adelante) y los tecn'ofilos, todos ellos conf'ian en que las nuevas tecnolog'ias inform'aticas sean una forma de ampliaci'on de la conciencia y de uni'on con una nueva forma de misticismo m'as acorde con los tiempos.

La contracultura, el hedonismo, el misticismo, las teor'ias de la f'isica cu'antica y la inform'atica, crearon una pseudoreligi'on en la que los "ciberhippies" de los Estados Unidos o los "zippies" ("Zen-inspired pagan professionals", o profesionales paganos inspirados en el Zen) del Reino Unido pon'ian toda su confianza en computadoras, chips, ingenier'ia gen'etica y nanotecnolog'ia. De hecho, pensadores como el fil'osofo Nick Bostrom18 ha difundido una ideolog'ia "transhumanista" que propone que la condici'on humana puede ser alterada y mejorada gracias a los implantes tecnol'ogicos o a la fusi'on de hombre y m'aquina. Algunos de estos transhumanistas opinan que incluso se podr'ia llegar a la vida eterna gracias a la clonaci'on o al transplante de conciencia a cuerpos rob'oticos en una existencia "postbiol'ogica".

Este nuevo tipo de vida eterna o de vida tras la muerte f'isica supone una reinterpretaci'on del argumento m'as poderoso de la mayor'ia de las religiones tradicionales, la garant'ia de una nueva vida tras la muerte, que garantiza muchos seguidores a estas j'ovenes religiones. De hecho, cient'ificos reputados como David Pearce20 han llegado a proponer incluso que la tecnolog'ia podr'ia ser capaz de suprimir gen'eticamente las enfermedades, metabolizar el dolor y proporcionar una felicidad que supondr'ia un para'iso en la tierra sobre la base de la ingenier'ia del para'iso, la farmac'eutica ut'opica y las drogas del placer: es el "Imperativo Hedonista".

Otras tendencias neopaganas parten de puntos de vista diferentes: si la divinidad est'a en todas partes, tambi'en est'a en la red y se puede rezar a trav'es de ella. Precisamente de esta idea de que la magia tambi'en est'a en Internet nacieron los primeros cultos tecnopaganos, creados sobre todo por adeptos de la wicca. Efectivamente, si tradicionalmente los wiccanos han buscado la presencia de una diosa natural en todas las religiones europeas, ahora tambi'enla buscan en la red. Se tratar'ia de reconocer que la tecnolog'ia tiene su propio esp'iritu, pues tambi'en ha sido creada por la diosa y que, por lo tanto, debe ser incorporada a los rituales de alabanza de la naturaleza.

Las religiones tradicionales tambi'en han aceptado la idea de que Dios puede ser adorado en l'inea. Por ejemplo, la Primera Iglesia del Ciberespacio, creada por el pastor presbiteriano Charles Henderson, impulsa una nueva forma de oraci'on en la que no es necesaria la presencia f'isica del creyente.

Esta perspectiva ha sido llevada a puntos m'as radicales por otras comunidadestecnopaganas que, superando a los wicanos, aseguran que Dios tambi'en puede encarnarse en bits de informaci'on y que se puede contactar con 'el a trav'es de rituales de magia homeop'atica en los que se posa la mano sobre la pantalla del ordenador o se reza tocando nuevos elementos como el silicio o los cables (v'ease anexo III).

Si en el chamanismo tradicional hay fuerzas sobrenaturales y esp'iritus con los que se puede contactar a trav'es de sue~nos, drogas, cantos o danzas est'aticas, hoy en d'ia, seg'un el hacker y genio inform'atico tecnopagano Mark Pesce (escritor de varios manifiestos que exaltan la sacralidad de la red) se puede llegar a conectar con la divinidad gracias a la combinaci'on de ordenadores, discotecas, tecno y drogas: en las raves los pinchadiscos pueden inducir trances colectivos en los bailarines est'aticos que ser'ian similares a los que los chamanes tradicionales pueden sufrir al comp'as de los tambores y con drogas naturales.Adem'as, el tecnochamanismo tambi'en quiere recuperar la funci'on que ten'ian los brujos de nexo de uni'on para la comunidad, para la que trabajaban como sanadores, psiquiatras y milagreros. Seg'un el mundo tecnocham'anico, la infraestructura tecnol'ogica de la red se ha vuelto tan compleja para el usuario medio que aqu'ella no puede ser entendida por medios l'ogicos. As'i, el tecnocham'an puede ayudar a la comunidad a sentirse m'as unida entre ella y con la tecnolog'ia, pero no por medios cient'ificos o t'ecnicos sino m'agicos.

Otra mitolog'ia de la red supone que Internet ha desarrollado una conciencia colectiva inteligente indistinguible de Dios. Cuantas m'as almas se conectan a la red, mayor es el poder espiritual de este ser digital. As'i, Joe Firmage, evangelista c'osmico y rico ex ejecutivo, ha escrito ensayos como Between truth and reality ( Entre la verdad y la realidad ) donde ha llegado incluso a hablar de ciertos "ovninautas" o monjes digitales posiblemente extraterrestres que, ayudados por el anonimato, desarrollan el ciberespacio hasta l'imites m'isticos.

En conclusi'on, Internet es un terreno f'ertil para la reproducci'on y creaci'on de todo tipo de creencias religiosas populares. Actualmente, se est'a viviendo en la red el desarrollo de nuevas doctrinas que relacionan supersticiones tradicionales con nov'isimas tecnolog'ias. Es el nacimiento de una nueva espiritualidad que tiene como centro la posible divinidad de un ente, la Internet, que en su indefinibilidad, su ubicuidad, su invisibilidad, su poder deinterconexi'on, se parece bastante a Dios.

Aparte de las implicaciones filos'oficas y teol'ogicas de los nuevos cultos tecnopaganos, a los antrop'ologos no puede dejar de interesarles la creaci'on de nuevas formas culturales y de elaborados ritos culturales que estas novedosas religiones est'an proponiendo ahora mismo a todo el planeta en el ciberespacio.

Conclusiones

En plena era tecnol'ogica e inform'atica, en un Occidente civilizado en el que lainformaci'on se encuentra al alcance de la mano, las creencias supersticiosas y m'isticas no s'olo no han desaparecido sino que florecen con todo esplendor en un lugar que, ir'onicamente, es tambi'en el paradigma m'aximo del desarrollo humano: Internet. Las viejas teor'ias antropol'ogicas como las de L'evy-Bruhl, Wilhelm Schmidt o Frazer28 que consideraban que toda civilizaci'on sufre un desarrollo conducente a un mundo m'as racional, las que cre'ian que los pueblos primitivos s'olo necesitaban los mitos y religiones para remediar su falta de explicaciones cient'ificas del mundo, quedan rebatidas por el auge de misticismo que vive actualmente todo Occidente. Tal y como postularon Malinowski y L'evy-Strauss, la evoluci'on desde la magia, a la religi'on, hasta la ciencia no es lineal sino que todas estas categor'ias conviven en cualquier sistema cultural.

Como se ha mostrado a lo largo de estas p'aginas, es posible que en Internet la tecnolog'ia punta conviva con correos supersticiosos, leyendas urbanas adaptadas a los nuevos tiempos, sectas pseudoreligiosas y comunidades que buscan a Dios en el ciberespacio.

Por un lado, el exceso de informaci'on que satura la red ha provocado que el usuario ya no pueda saber si el mensaje que recibe es veraz, y que s'olo se preocupe por transmitir m'as y m'as informaci'on posiblemente defectuosa. De este modo, la gran base de datos que es Internet se ha convertido al mismo tiempo en un canal imparable de bulos, rumores, leyendas y supersticiones que el usuario acepta y transmite. Es decir, la evoluci'on tecnol'ogica no ha conllevado un afinamiento del criterio racional del usuario: el internauta medio, confuso ante la complejidad de un sistema virtual que no entiende, prefiere dar cr'edito al folclore de la red, el netlore.

Por otro lado, tampoco la tecnolog'ia ha supuesto un freno para las necesidadesreligiosas del internauta; al contrario, nuevos grupos se acomodan y extienden f'acilmente por la red. Las nuevas tecnolog'ias abren todo un campo de posibilidades a las sectas, que ahora, gracias a la nanotecnolog'ia, la clonaci'on, la posibilidad de implantar conciencias en cuerpos mec'anicos, el sue~no de reencarnar en el cuerpo inmortal de un ciborg, pueden ofrecer la vida eterna en la tierra.

Otros movimientos religiosos que parec'ian anclados en un mundo tradicional y natural, como la wicca, se han abierto tambi'en a las posibilidades del neopaganismo; quieren demostrar que si Dios est'a en todas partes, tambi'en puede manifestarse en l'inea y que por lo tanto es posible rezarle posando la mano en un ordenador o asistiendo en l'inea a un rezo colectivo. A'un m'as lejos, los grupos tecnopaganos creen que Internet es, de hecho, una conciencia colectiva superior identificable con Dios gracias a su ubicuidad, su invisibilidad, su indefinibilidad y su inmaterialidad. De este modo, los tecnochamanes pueden ayudar a la comunidad a conectar con el Dios cibern'etico gracias a rituales de magia intuitiva similares a los que el cham'an tradicional realizaba para potenciar la espiritualidad de su comunidad.

Y en medio de esta jungla de nuevas religiones y supersticiones, ha nacido tambi'en una casta de h'eroes o tal vez dioses que quieren regir el ciberespacio como una comunidad de libre intercambio de dones: los hackers. Estos piratas inform'aticos, que se atribuyen la construcci'on de gran parte de Internet, han creado comunidades y foros en los que ciudadanos virtuales conviven con personalidades supuestas en un mundo con su propia 'etica (la n'etica), c'odigos de conducta y de intercambio de dones. Este nuevo pueblo, que vive en un mundo paralelo al real, ser'a sin duda el pr'oximo sujeto de los an'alisis antropol'ogicos.

As'i, en definitiva, se configura un mundo virtual que usa la tecnolog'ia m'as avanzada para transmitir mensajes que muchos tachar'ian de primitivos: supersticiones, religiones y magia. Sin embargo, esta extra~na convivencia de lo antiguo con lo moderno viene a demostrar, precisamente, que lo m'agico no pertenece al pasado primitivo sino que sigue siendo parte de toda sociedad desarrollada. Por ello, queda desarmada la idea de que el pensamiento m'agico es incompatible con el pensamiento cient'ifico; al contrario, ambos tipos de razonamiento conviven en el ser humano.

Las explicaciones cient'ificas del mundo no son suficientes para responder a todas las preguntas del hombre, que sigue necesitando otro tipo de interpretaciones culturales del mundo. Es decir, cualquier usuario medio de Internet se encuentra ante la paradoja de servirse cotidianamente de un medio que no sabe c'omo funciona pues, de hecho, el desarrollo tecnol'ogico va demasiado deprisa para que pueda ser comprendido plenamente por un hombre de cultura media. As'i, la ciencia y la tecnolog'ia no s'olo no contribuyen a explicar mejor el mundo sino que a veces suman al hombre en una nebulosa de incertidumbre. Entonces interviene el pensamiento m'agico, religioso o supersticioso para aportar una respuesta. Por ello, parece indudable que el futuro de Internet y de toda sociedad no avanza hacia el fin de la magia y la superstici'on sino m'as bien hacia una nueva era de espiritualidad y misticismo cibertecnol'ogico.

On the bright side, look for new alternative energy sources. On the horizon there are several that can transform our world toward THE GOOD. These new energy systems are not likely to be on the commercial market, however. It is more realistic to discover them by word of mouth.

On the trend scene, as has been mentioned, what is old is now new. Skills and crafts necessary for life in the 1800s are being revived. Take advantage of all the old timey knowledge available. Choose what suits you and go for it. There is a great deal of soul satisfaction to be had. And, in these times, such knowledge will become invaluable.

Suddenly shy, Sylva took a sip of her wine. "Everything's ready," Ginger announced brightly. "Why don't we sit down to dinner. Zeke you can say grace." Lazily stroking her shoulders, Zeke ushered her toward an oblong table. Set simply but beautifully, covered silver dishes waited for them. "Come on, darlin' mine. Our first official dinner with the family." After a grin at her own nervousness, Sylva uttered, "You would have to say that."

Zeke pulled out his Sylva's chair. "What?" he joked. "What did I say?" Hugging her shoulders between his palms, he kissed her temple. "Official," she murmured. "Don't mind me," she softly continued, "I just have a sudden attack of shyness." Once Grant seated Marina, his sister gazed at Sylva. "That will be refreshing since none of us have that proclivity. I do mean that in a nice way." His wife sat, settled herself, then gazed at his sister. "I know. My gosh, you all do believe in the healing power of silver, don't you? I know Zeke talked about it."

Darpa's Cheetah-Bot Designed to Chase Human Prey

Perhaps you thought the four-legged BigDog robot wasn't eerily lifelike enough. That'll change soon. BigDog's makers are working on a new quadruped that moves faster than any human and is agile enough to "chase and evade."

Boston Dynamics, maker of the Army's BigDog robotic mule, announced today that Darpa has awarded it a contract to build a much faster and more fearsome animal-like robot, Cheetah.

As the name implies, Cheetah is designed to be a four-legged robot with a flexible spine and articulated head (and potentially a tail) that runs faster than the fastest human. In addition to raw speed, Cheetah's makers promise that it will have the agility to make tight turns so that it can "zigzag to chase and evade" and be able to stop on a dime.

Cheetah builds off work on the company's previous four legged animal bot, BigDog. It was built as a kind of unmanned pack mule, designed to carry equipment for troops on the battlefield.
