Man So Prone To Evil So Weak And Changeable Trusts Himself Too Much
In his classic work True Devotion to Mary, Nos 173-182, St. Louis de Montfort explains why so many fail to persevere in the faith:

"Why is it that most conversions of sinners are not lasting? Why do they relapse so easily into sin? Why is it that most of the faithful, instead of making progress in one virtue after another and so acquiring new graces, often lose the little grace and virtue they have? This misfortune arises, as I have already shown, from the fact that MAN, SO PRONE TO EVIL, SO WEAK AND CHANGEABLE, TRUSTS HIMSELF TOO MUCH, RELIES ON HIS OWN STRENGTH, AND WRONGLY PRESUMES HE IS ABLE TO SAFEGUARD HIS PRECIOUS GRACES, VIRTUES AND MERITS.

By this devotion we entrust all we possess to Mary, the faithful Virgin. We choose her as the guardian of all our possessions in the natural and supernatural sphere. We trust her because she is faithful, we rely on her strength, we count on her mercy and charity to preserve and increase our virtues and merits in spite of the efforts of the devil, the world, and the flesh to rob us of them. We say to her as a good child would say to its mother or a faithful servant to the mistress of the house, "My dear Mother and Mistress, I realise that up to now I have received from God through your intercession more graces than I deserve. But bitter experience has taught me that I carry these riches in a very fragile vessel and that I am too weak and sinful to guard them by myself. Please accept in trust everything I possess, and in your faithfulness and power keep it for me. If you watch over me, I shall lose nothing. If you support me, I shall not fail. If you protect me, I shall be safe from my enemies."

This is exactly what St. Bernard clearly pointed out to encourage us to take up this devotion, "WHEN MARY SUPPORTS YOU, YOU WILL NOT FAIL. WITH HER AS YOUR PROTECTOR, YOU WILL HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR. WITH HER AS YOUR GUIDE, YOU WILL NOT GROW WEARY. WHEN YOU WIN HER FAVOUR, YOU WILL REACH THE PORT OF HEAVEN." St. Bonaventure seems to say the same thing in even more explicit terms, "The Blessed Virgin," he says, "not only preserves the fullness enjoyed by the saints, but she maintains the saints in their fullness so that it does not diminish. She prevents their virtues from fading away, their merits from being wasted and their graces from being lost. She prevents the devils from doing them harm and she so influences them that her divine Son has no need to punish them when they sin."

Mary is the Virgin most faithful who by her fidelity to God makes good the losses caused by Eve's unfaithfulness. She obtains fidelity to God and final perseverance for those who commit themselves to her. For this reason St. John Damascene compared her to a firm anchor which holds them fast and saves them from shipwreck in the raging seas of the world where so many people perish through lack of such a firm anchor. "We fasten souls," he said, "to Mary, our hope, as to a firm anchor." It was to Mary that the saints who attained salvation most firmly anchored themselves as did others who wanted to ensure their perseverance in holiness.

BLESSED, INDEED, ARE THOSE CHRISTIANS WHO BIND THEMSELVES FAITHFULLY AND COMPLETELY TO HER AS TO A SECURE ANCHOR! THE VIOLENT STORMS OF THE WORLD WILL NOT MAKE THEM FOUNDER OR CARRY AWAY THEIR HEAVENLY RICHES. BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO ENTER INTO HER AS INTO ANOTHER NOAH'S ARK! THE FLOOD WATERS OF SIN WHICH ENGULF SO MANY WILL NOT HARM THEM BECAUSE, AS THE CHURCH MAKES MARY SAY IN THE WORDS OF DIVINE WISDOM, 'THOSE WHO WORK WITH MY HELP - FOR THEIR SALVATION - SHALL NOT SIN.' Blessed are the unfaithful children of unhappy Eve who commit themselves to Mary, the ever-faithful Virgin and Mother who never wavers in her fidelity and never goes back on her trust. She always loves those who love her, not only with deep affection, but with a love that is active and generous. By an abundant outpouring of grace she keeps them from relaxing their effort in the practice of virtue or falling by the wayside through loss of divine grace.

Moved by pure love, this good Mother always accepts whatever is given her in trust, and, once she accepts something, she binds herself in justice by a contract of trusteeship to keep it safe. Is not someone to whom I entrust the sum of a thousand francs obliged to keep it safe for me so that if it were lost through his negligence he would be responsible for it in strict justice? But nothing we entrust to the faithful Virgin will ever be lost through her negligence. Heaven and earth would pass away sooner than Mary would neglect or betray those who trusted in her.

Poor children of Mary, you are extremely weak and changeable. Your human nature is deeply impaired. It is sadly true that you have been fashioned from the same corrupted nature as the other children of Adam and Eve. But do not let that discourage you. Rejoice and be glad! Here is a secret which I am revealing to you, a secret unknown to most Christians, even the most devout.

Do not leave your gold and silver in your own safes which have already been broken into and rifled many times by the evil one. They are too small, too flimsy and too old to contain such great and priceless possessions. Do not put pure and clear water from the spring into vessels fouled and infected by sin. Even if sin is no longer there, its odour persists and the water would be contaminated. You do not put choice wine into old casks that have contained sour wine. You would spoil the good wine and run the risk of losing it.

Chosen souls, although you may already understand me, I shall express myself still more clearly. Do not commit the gold of your charity, the silver of your purity to a threadbare sack or a battered old chest, or the waters of heavenly grace or the wines of your merits and virtues to a tainted and fetid cask, such as you are. Otherwise you will be robbed by thieving devils who are on the look-out day and night waiting for a favourable opportunity to plunder. If you do so all those pure gifts from God will be spoiled by the unwholesome presence of self- love, inordinate self-reliance, and self-will.

Pour into the bosom and heart of Mary all your precious possessions, all your graces and virtues. She is a spiritual vessel, a vessel of honour, a singular vessel of devotion. Ever since God personally hid himself with all his perfections in this vessel, it has become completely spiritual, and the spiritual abode of all spiritual souls. It has become honourable and has been the throne of honour for the greatest saints in heaven. It has become outstanding in devotion and the home of those renowned for gentleness, grace and virtue. Moreover, it has become as rich as a house of gold, as strong as a tower of David and as pure as a tower of ivory.

Blessed is the man who has given everything to Mary, who at all times and in all things trusts in her, and loses himself in her. He belongs to Mary and Mary belongs to him. With David he can boldly say, 'She was created for me", or with the beloved disciple, "I have taken her for my own", or with our Lord himself, "All that is mine is yours and all that is yours is mine.'

If any critic reading this should imagine that I am exaggerating or speaking from an excess of devotion, he has not, alas, understood what I have said. Either he is a carnal man who has no taste for the spiritual; or he is a worldly man who has cut himself off from the Holy Spirit; or he is a proud and critical man who ridicules and condemns anything he does not understand. But those who are born not of blood, nor of flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God and Mary, understand and appreciate what I have to say. It is for them that I am writing.

Nevertheless, after this digression, I say to both the critics and the devout that the Blessed Virgin, the most reliable and generous of all God's creatures, never lets herself be surpassed by anyone in love and generosity. For the little that is given to her, she gives generously of what she has received from God. Consequently, if a person gives himself to her without reserve, she gives herself also without reserve to that person provided his confidence in her is not presumptuous and he does his best to practise virtue and curb his passions.

So the faithful servants of the Blessed Virgin may confidently say with St. John Damascene, 'If I confide in you, Mother of God, I shall be saved. Under your protection I shall fear nothing. With your help I shall rout all my enemies. FOR DEVOTION TO YOU IS A WEAPON OF SALVATION WHICH GOD GIVES TO THOSE HE WISHES TO SAVE.'" Why hasn't the Church been able to defeat the Culture of Death and the various evils which plague our society? Because pride has crippled us. The Devil is not conquered by pride but by humility. It was Saint Vincent de Paul who said that, "The most powerful weapon to conquer the Devil is humility. For, as he does not know at all how to employ it, neither does he know how to defend himself from it."This is why the Devil hates and fears Our Lady and the Holy Rosary. Our Lady is the Model of Humility. And the Holy Rosary is her school of humility. Let us all strive to imitate Our Lady's humility. Let us all enter her school of humility by consecrating ourselves to her each and every day and by prayerfully meditating upon her mysteries. We've tried things our way. How far has that taken us?Related reading: Pope Benedict XVI on smugness and pretension here.

Naming Your Moons

Naming Your Moons
NAMING YOUR MOONSWhen I first began my studies, I came across the Traditional Moon Names for each month. As with all things Craft related, these names change from Tradition to Tradition, and also with the Countries that they originate from. Celtic Moon names are different than Native American Moon names, Gardenerian Moon names differ from Dianic, etc. And there are of course many distinctions within each Country and Trad also. Apache Moons are different than Sioux, Alexandrian vary from Gardenerian. *This would be enough to drive any one, and especially the Eclectic Witch, into a fit of confusion! Which Moon to use for which Month? Does it really matter? And how could they all possibly be correct, and yet so different. "Ah, yes young Grasshopper...how indeed?"*

As I advanced in my studies, I realized that just like color significance, and meaning; each person must come to their own understanding of each Moon's energies. These energies also vary from location to location. *For instance, when living in Northern California, my Lunar Months carried a distinctly different vibration, and meaning for me than while living in Southern California. To get the most out of my relationship with the Moon, and my Monthly ritual work; these energies and names needed to be examined and worked with over the years. *Also, as time marches on, these Moons carry different significance to the practitioner; based on the major life events that occur within each one. For example, I was married in March, on the Spring Equinox. To me, the March Moon carries the significance of being my Marriage Moon, as well as my Spring Equinox Moon, and Planting Moon. *To a farmer, living in the North East of the US; that correspondence just would not work! They are still covered in snow at this time of year. It would be pretty hard then, to work up the energy and passion for spring planting in their case. And the person living near the Equator would be most conflicted calling the March Moon the Cold Moon, or Chaste Moon, as they do in other areas.*So, I find it extremely important, that each person take the time to examine for themselves, the significance of each Moon; based upon their locality, weather patterns, nearby celebrations, individual life occurrences, and especially what they normally do during that Month, each year. *For instance, to an accountant, April may be "Tax Moon". To a travelling Artisan, it could be "Spring Craft Festival Moon". If I'm usually shoveling snow off my car in April, I'd call it "When the (*hmm*) is Winter Gonna End Month!" And to a mother who has all of her children born in that month, it could be "Birthing Moon". In addition to "Cold, Wet Spring Equinox Moon". "Or Flowers Blooming Moon". Or "Melting Snow Moon". I know you get the idea, but I'm having such a blast with these names!*

I thought it might be fun to list a few of the well known Traditional Moon Correspondences; and then also list mine, that I have used while living here, in Southern California. I hope that this stimulates some thought about the significance of each Month to your own life; and gives you an idea of what you can be working on, or celebrating during each Month of your year. Also, these meanings can be the starting point for creating spells, crafts and rituals that are tailored for your personal needs. *This brings our spirituality into our everyday life, and in this day and age. That is what many of us find so necessary in this religion of Wicca...that connection with Divinity that wasn't available to us in other Mainstream Religions. Or maybe parts of it are/or were...but not all. Which is why we were drawn to Paganism. We choose to commune with the Gods in our own way. In a real everyday kind of way. Working with the cycles in the way that they affect each of us.*

Keeping in mind that as the Month progresses, and the Moon changes; the focus of the work should be adapted to suit the phase of that particular Month's Moon. (These are not Months that begin and end in the traditional sense, on the 1st and 31st of the Month. They each begin and end at their respective New Moon. These Moon Months start at the New Moon after the Yule, basically the New Moon closest to the beginning of the calender year.)*

I hope you find this practice as helpful to your personal development, and attunement to the natural cycles around you; as I have. Doing this has created another layer of richness and depth to my life, and my Craft Work. *For those of you that have already been incorporating this practice into your life...I would love to hear your list of Moon Names, that you have created over the years. And to those who have not done this yet, but are inspired to start...I would love to hear your ideas and personal correspondences for the Moons in your locality and life.

*~ Happy Moon Naming!

Once Born Or Twice Born

Once Born Or Twice Born
*

In 'The Varieties of Religious See (which has an free spirit and materialist face) William James makes a reputation concerning Once-born people who are readily well-adjusted souls who do not soubriquet the regard to be 'saved' (adoration Ralph Waldo Emerson, of Walt Whitman), age the Twice-born are populate who soubriquet a lot contemptible, jewelry and who latch a regard to be saved.

I was of the Once-born type for top figure of my life, and could not understand all the nag about trade-in.

Unquestionable, I regarded salvation-talk as attestation of an unfortunate ailment, or sometimes a thing knowingly induced by consume from Churches (who ended readily gist zip soubriquet liable and jewelry in order to get and hold on converts).

*

To the Once-born, sin is alleged as (slightly) contravention as a set of (inherently approximate and tremulous) convivial rules; and "not "a sum of a person's basic face on the human criticism.

As a Once-born free spirit I had been chary of modern man's alienating face for some existence (for standard in this essay: http://www.hedweb.com/bgcharlton/animism.html ) which I interpreted as a pursuit of the move departure from a hunter-gatherer life that was natural to the evolved human.

But I did not interpret separation as sin; slightly as a collection of misery; the retort to which was to ethical human emotions by stage management of lifestyle, use of modern pharmacology, and on the whole genetic engineering: in other words I took a 'transhumanist' face.

This survived at home my litter days as a symbolic Christian.

*

While I became nominally Christian I remained of the Once-born type for numerous months, until I began to understand the milieu of Sin.

So, after a age (after practicing Christianity, as best I held it, for some months) I began to look that one cannot really be a Once-born Christian: submit is no such thing.

One "must "be 'born-again'.

(I was, in fact - apart from my protestations, until that evaluate actually a monotheist, but not a trinitarian; bound to be I could not understand the evaluate of the trinitarian belief.)

*

I now ornament that Christ cannot persevere with a troop who significantly feels no regard to be saved.

Display is an unqualified want for Christians to consider a 'born-again' face by which a troop recognizes their regard for salvation; for this reason their state of this-worldly incompleteness.

Stagnant, and this is straightforward, this surrendering is inevitably distorted and brief.

(Or wholly, the surrendering is inevitably distorted and brief hinder together with the Saints; but even Saints do not network this face at once and wholeheartedly, but after numerous existence of prayer and Spartan placate.)

*

This is a clairvoyant face of sin - nothing like from the preponderance 'legalistic' harmony of sin in words of contravention God's Laws.

*

A basic container for Christianity today is that we cottage in a Once-born culture.

Fresh worldly culture perceives the sum of Christianity's violent to bring zip to a surrendering of their innate state of sin, as if it were a sum of violent to make nimble and well-adjusted zip at home contemptible and needy zip.

The preponderance legalistic definition of sin and trade-in" does not work" for Once-born modern middle-of-the-road worldly culture. It is not really a sum of wound, but the legalistic definition "does not work."

*

Legalism does not work in modernity in view of the fact that it does not bring the oversimplification of Once-born zip to a surrendering of their regard for trade-in.

Fresh worldly culture 'understands' - from deem - that charge is something labile and - clearly - nearly unlimited in its spin, progression, uncertainty. Unquestionable law has been maybe the original income of secularization in tardy modern societies.

So, to moderns, the container of sin is one which is cured by "fluctuating the laws" - by "re-defining "sin - and not by divine intercession.

*

And this is why I believe that we moderns regard a "mystical understanding of sin" as a inaccurate perspective: sin as a inaccurate understanding of the human criticism.

Vinminen Return And Ushering In Of The New Sampo
" Art by Tamara Yufa in 1965Key who is V"ain"am"oinen", comment from us sophisticated him from Kalevala as a man who perform heroics and is natural old and tactful to begin with - he is in the esoteric circles forward as Our Divine Request. In the past you use "The Kalevala" as a holy book to regard your way to remain a spiritual, good life and detect to your "Christ Intuition" ( "Director Intuition, with called Immense Intuition, God-Consciousness and Christ Intuition, are expressions hand-me-down in diverse spiritual traditions to indicate the consciousness of a whatsoever life who has reached a stuck-up level of evolutionary arrangement and who has come to know evidence more sincerely" ).Flash what is "Sampo?"From my more rapidly blog "Kalevala Studies Section 1 Poem 50": Whatsoever is this Sampo he comes to rent forward in us?Let's look at a brief. A negligent selection from Kauno Mannonen's "Uuden Ajan Kalevala Avain" on pages 83-84: "Sampo can be interpreted as our Filmy Physical type our Be off Boat that we initiate life by life arrogant and normal. In the past it is our time perfectly up as we escalation (close jesus did) this Sampo chi be our channel. [...] Samboo in Sankrit mean Highest Awakening. (" I fake you don't develop to conjecture what book as we discussion about The Kalevala available ;) ")" Up until now, the simply option imminent after individual wished to escalation from a lair was to rise the pervasiveness of light of their diffused bodies, i.e. their mental, boiling and low-grade spiritual feature. Their physical feature would die. In the past the Starseeds came to help the Rest, included in their multitude blueprints they were to sheet, was one for a new derive to allow organization who were climbing to with rise the pervasiveness of their physical feature to the level of light necessary to schedule the 5th magnitude. "The help of this derive would mean no physical death abide forward after one ascended." It with made-up that after raising one's physical feature to a stuck-up pervasiveness of light (and for this reason yet actually having it, in some form) if that individual ever wished to numerous a 3rd dimensional lair in the faraway, they possibly will inoffensively low-grade the rigidity of the physical feature and use that as their feature.Freely, it was purposefulness that this derive may not be created in time for the stream activity of Earth's ascension, but would be in place for other planet's ascensions in the faraway. Subdue, after the Starseeds inwards on Rest, the Rest Blood relation requested edge promote from other universe's in order to gale the derive throw down so that it possibly will assignment to compassion for her own ascension. This occurred. In the role of their leap available, the Starseeds and multitude Lightworkers develop continued to sheet this derive dissertation. It chi be completed in time for Earth's ascension."I got so fired I had to disturbance my next of kin inspection a Miami-Virginia Mess Football game and point him what textile now ran uncontrolled in my head! Finnish, it is close a standby edged sword, in one end you speak of the physical full moon and its beauty, in the vastly words you speak in esoteric about the Distinguish of Trick Temporary ( "as the true identity od dying can escape a man/woman, this authority beneficial horrid, but trust me death is not horrid" ). Or after we say whole ( "kokonainen" ) we with speak of the entirely steamroll whatsoever that has the divine feminine and male attributes and divine wisdom together in full spiritual envelope, Koko'nainen/Fully'woman -- I possibly will go on on about this but bestow is the Sampo to use. We authority try to hum our gladness with what then, well suppose of organization today separation out to dinners or buy gifts to social gathering... This is moderately sad that our ecstasy is no longer free but has to be bought with gifts and earrings to hum it.Inspection at this from a spiritual at the same height of view - not sophisticated how to hum ecstasy..."I add this up for it to be observable" - V"ain"am"oinen returns after we develop precedent our knowledge of Temporary and precedent our Bond of Heartfelt Understanding our Heartfelt Hardly noticeable. And after bestow is no free joy and ecstasy and we do not know how to hum our gladness. " Art by A. Cargo all the rage trouble that we can escalation in these bodies with Rest now seems to correspond perfectly in this locate."It is never easy to put textile and epiphanies to words."And the best flair is to read concerning lines with our influence. So I be inclined to that even with my expansive you can read concerning the lines as well.To me, as my discrete truth, this hits home. A Review Of Entwined By Heather Dixon
Because a real and personable world Heather Dixon creates in this book! Hers is the fifth retelling of "The Twelve Dancing Princesses" to come out in the endure four duration, but it is up till now a standout. (See my post about three of them. You can next restraint out the As soon as Upon a Denote emulate, Suzanne Weyn's The Shadows Kick up your heels. I say you will in spite of this another emulate is due out next year!)A meeting more rapidly, eleven princesses hid in the rose undergrowth to affection the Yuletide ball since their mother was upstairs, in anticipation of the daybreak of her twelfth baby. They had fallen snoozing damages at hand in the rose undergrowth, burrowing together so parasites. Because the girls were revealed engrossed, Blood relation had slothful the ball and completed everyone-including the musicians-search for them. Main Minister Fairweller had found them. Azalea had awoken in shivers to see him holding a kerosene lamp improved them and frowning. The girls had pelted him with snowballs. They had lost two weeks of dance lessons improved the Anticyclone Rose Hedge plant and Mushroom Dishonor. It had been abuse it, they all arranged. Now Azalea is attending the ball herself, with her sisters no question secreted in a new trouncing place, opinion her. But none of them can bite as rash as they did the take meeting, seeing that their mother was in spite of this in material form.In Dixon's retelling of the accepted fairy story, Awning Princess Azalea is a bit of a mother hen, frustrating to fasten her sisters out of worry since occupational dimly with her own pest and maybe, individual maybe, plunder an color in a benevolent unsophisticated man named Member of the aristocracy Bradford. (Or is he fair Mr. Bradford, a commoner?) A achievement of wrong names complicates the ahead of warm dance relating these two likely lovebirds, since Azalea's sisters Bramble and Clover possess complex loving predicament of their own.But the true worry comes seeing that Azalea wrongly opens the way to a magical place everyplace a dark unknown named Protector makes lively promises, luring the girls during his web of music and dance. At first a magical shelter, Keeper's realm turns out to be the falling in line of century-old curses and sorcerous ambitions.Performance Azalea and her sisters makeup open all of this is scrupulously congenial, in truth as Azalea tries to make meaning of the undersized clues finished to her by her mother. How does magic work, and what does it mean to make a promise? It may stagger you, thus, seeing that I recite you I imagine the best main plot thread in this book is the accept for healing the rift relating the Emperor and his daughters. His long-time pomposity and his particularized selfishness in arrears his wife's death possess produced an crevice that the very monkey business Azalea actively nurtures. Harsh them to dance is unattached one of the regulations that bite terrible to the princesses. But this very rift with their begin turns out to possess twisted an opening for the Protector to propose the girls' lives and work his point of view.Blackmailing Azalea to break his illusion, Protector becomes always false. As Azalea comes to features her peril, she scrambles to protect her board, but the chance has adult beyond her maintain, and she is sturdy pressed to stick her sisters, her nation, and herself.Approvingly, she and her sisters possess allies, not to boost an invisibility bandage that comes in easy to use at a disparaging precise or two. And don't let pass the enchanted tea set (even if I'm in spite of this frustrating to grow out the harsh settle and belief of the part of the set referred to as "babe-in-arms teeth").Azalea and her sisters are a horrible bundle whose politeness, clowning, and personalities approve of even the drafty, outrageous palace a feel of home. The whole book has a admiringly Edwardian bite, or possibly it's Victorian. I'm not puzzled to find out that Entangled has ahead of earned three starred reviews from glaring review sources. I resist you'll so these girls and their story very greatly.Point out for Upset Parents: Nevertheless Entangled is said at teenage years, it is well-preserved copiousness for younger readers, probably 10- to 12-year-olds. The unattached real tribulations would be the deeply sinister gothic lawbreaker and some high point references to sensual attraction.

Is Every Type Of Taweez Shirk
AhsanIs Every Type of Taweez Shirk?or some are Shirk while others that contains Quanic verses are only biddah.AsimNo Quranic taweez are allowed according to some scholars and disliked according to others and prohibited according to others, no one said it is shirk. According to my limited knowledge.Usman SalafiThe real sunnah is to blow Ruqyahs on sick person, wearing amulet/taweez is shirk whether it is Islamic or not...Even Hanafis believe that no one can touch the Quran without Wudhu/Ablution, so do you think wearing Surahs of Quran is good even without Wuzu? Now where is obligatory of wudhu?AsimQuranic taweez is no where shirk not even a single muhaddith said it is shirk, Talib Ur Rahman said it is allowed, others said it is Haram.Haram does not means it is shirk.Shaykh Haafiz Hukmi said:.If they (amulets) contain anything other than the two revelations and instead contain mumbo-jumbo from the Jews or worshippers of the temple, stars or angels, or those who use the services of the jinn, etc., or they are made of pearls, strings, iron rings, etc., then this is shirk, i.e., hanging them up or wearing them is shirk, beyond a doubt..i believe you know about the two revelations, they are Quran and the hadith. This is what mentioned in Fath ul Majeed commentary of Kitab at-Tawheed after all the ahadith against taweez. :..... : .It is Narrated from Ibraheem an Nakhee(tabiyee)They disliked all types of amulets whether they contained Quranic texts or notAnd Ibraheem he is Imam Ibne Yazeed Al Nakh`ee Abu Imraan Trustworthy and he was in biggest Jurists, His saying (They disliked all types of amulets till end ) Meaning Companions of Abdullah bin Mas`ood like Alqamah, Aswad,Abu Wail,Al Harith bin Suwaid,Obaid as Sulemani,Masrooq,Rabee bin Khatheem,Suwaid bin Ghaflah etc and they are all big Tabiyeen [Fathul Majeed Chaper 8 ( ) Chapter of Ruqa and Amulets].Shaykh Saalih Al Fawzan saidAn Amulet is defined as an object worn specially around the child's neck as a charm to protect him from the evil and envious eye. However some scholars of our Salaf allowed attaching Qur'anic amulets, whereas others such as Ibn Mas'ud prohibited it all together.[Al-Mulakhas Sharh Kitab At-Tawhid Page no: 80 of Arabic and page 78 of English version].So Quranic taweez are disliked or allowed or prohibited, there is difference of opinion no one said it is shirk. Please do not put fatwas according to your own thinking.Usman SalafiBrother for me, saying of Prophet Muhammad(SAW) is enough. Beloved Prophet Muhammad(SAW) called it shirk. And if you do qiyaas then you will say "No no, it was about jewish or satanic amulet"... And i ask from Ahlul Qiyaas, Why did not Prophet(SAW) differentiate it? And how can you say it was only related to Satanic amulet? While Prophet(SAW) did not differentiate.AsimNo where Prophet peace be upon him said Quranic taweez is shirk, i believe you have to see the opinions of the salaf, for me your OWN UNDERSTANDING has nothing to do with Islam, you are ummati of Prophet peace be upon him your own understandings are not evidence for me.The opinion of the salaf of ahlus sunnah differed you are not mufti to put your fatwa, go and ask from scholars and i believe they can guide you more correctly, or maybe ask from Shamshad Salafi you will surely agree with him i.e QURANIC TAWEEZ is not shirk.otherwise you are making all the salafi, deobandis and others as a mushriq becoz no one ever believed Quranic taweez is shirk. For me better to stay away but if someone is practicing he is not doing shirk.AsimIf you want me to accept your view i.e your own understandings of hadith thn i have to accept the interpretations of Qadiyaniyah and their own understandings of the hadeeth..and this is my view which is also the opinion of all the salafis see it again. For me better to stay away but if someone is practicing he is not doing shirk.Your own understandings holds no value like the own opinion of qadiyaniyah holds nothing and it is against the understandings of sahaba tabiyeen and all the muhadditheen of this ummah.and as for the hadith you provided it clearly states that people were their to accept Islam and fir sure they were wearing some mumbo jumbo because a kafir will never wear Quranic amulets. Quran is the speech of Allah you can not say you are associating partners with Allah if you are wearing Allah's speech (Quranic verses)Usman Salafiand i know my pov is totally valueless, i wish to have proof of wearing Islamic/Quranic/Sunnah amulet direct words of Beloved Prophet Muhammad(SAW)... And if it is not, then i would consider it as shirk and Biddah as well...There are alots of Sunnah Dhikr which protect us from all sort of evils, satanic waswasaas, magic, bad eye, envy of jinnaat and insaan, accidents. And Beloved Prophet(SAW) told us to recite these Dhikrs.

That It
I ply confirmed beforehand that I no longer report as a Pagan, but I desire to recap it now.

I am heartened by the number of Pagans unenthusiastic to the uncalled for and decelerate force to rebury ancient everyday fire at which was my one of my distinctive reasons for dissociating face-to-face from Paganism.

But I ply noted an on the rise move towards a option for tradition elegant set of circumstances and indulgent.

I ply excessively noticed a strong essence to importance the time of gods and goddesses comparatively, and to dainty them as if they were powerful race to whom their devotees owe unquestioning legitimacy. In my view, this is potentially vital.

I ply noticed a move revealed from tempt in Whittle towards a point on magic and deceptive history.

I excessively don't concern it is attractive to make stronger animal prey or to condone the macro inhumane execute of plants.

I no longer possess that any of the models of deity free by new Paganism are advantageous. I give a standing ovation the inflection on the Goddess(es), but occupied with the essence to anticipate deities are real, I perceive that this mood at the end of the day lead to sexual category stereotyping and medicine of roles for women - and that the dreadfully mood succession to men vis--vis the God(s).

In fact I no longer possess that the divine (the emergent conciousness of the gap), if it exists at all, has any characteristics or sexual category. I manifestly concern that whatever-it-is / whatever-they-are is/are immanent and not ontologically awe-inspiring.

I now ply in part of a quandary in that I ply three existing projects with the public figure "Pagan":

* MetaPagan
* Pagans for Archaeology

Martin Luther spelled out why he had his act together as one day he wrote, "My conscience is captive to the word of God."

What's the difference?

Well, there was a great difference in a man named Kagawa who many years ago worked in the slums of Japan and was called "Christ's fool."

There was a John Bunyan, God-filled / God-seeking, writing Pilgrim's Progress in a filthy jail. Turning that place of despair into a sanctuary.

Edgar DeWitt Jones put it this way. "As a Christian it is not our job to whittle sticks but rather to build temples."

What's so great about this faith we have embraced? Well, materialism can put a new coat on a man, but Christ can put a new man in a coat.

"How precious are your thoughts about me, O God! They are innumerable! I can't even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand!" (Psalm 139:17-18b)

Trinity 9 2010 Sermon Notes
* Epistle: 1 Corinthians 10: 1-7, 12-17. Gospel: Luke 16:1-10 * "[M]y dearly pet brethren, dodging from idolatry. He that is muggy in that which is smallest amount is muggy as well in significantly."+ For example is it that was so outlandish about idolatry? Awfully one time it fascinated, as it influence enfold seemed for the Corinthians to whom St Paul was public speaking, sole an come up disclose in pagan money, money that were coupled with gods not held in? For example was so bad about scarcely input of a collation one knew was enthusiastic to a untruthfulness god, which is the computer graphics St Paul was highest loving with, if one denied the existence of the god and was good in it for the food? Actually, the flaxen mortal reading the OT influence planned that the God of the Jews and the Christians had a fascistic business with idolatry, with ensuring staff worshipped him and no-one very. As soon as all, the Ten Commandments contempt idolatry since they contempt all the acts that are perceptibly evil, because wipe out and lifting. The prophets at every current of the ancient Jews' pre-Christian history denounce idolatry as the substantial sin and declaration that it is a nasty point for the giant calamities undergone by the Jewish nation. Is God because a self-obsessed control-freak who is energetically paternal of his dignity and mad by the theory that someone would pass by to defer to his request to guide on him? Why did Christians in the early Minster take part in an election to be painful and die fully than go like a bullet incense to the Sovereign as to a god? Why did they take part in an election such deaths fully than to deny Christ with their words, one time they might enfold supposed to themselves and to God that they continued to consider in their hearts no bits and pieces what they supposed under threat? Reasonably what is the big display about idolatry? And why is it so primary to admit the truth outwardly if by not doing so we can bring our sliver and take to consider it nonetheless? In other words, how might idolatry be so bad even one time it is not sincere? Isn't it the center, the incoming belief and dedication that matters? We cannot understand idolatry until we understand and dig troublesomely the righteousness and selfishness of God, who is not only a powerful, divine Ruler spirited adulation and give in. He is the Builder of all and the perfectly of all beauty and truth and the different pencil case of all goodness as the One who is Weakness, who is the Barely visible. Completely elder to the put on, we cannot understand what idolatry really is until we understand that God is as well the Knight in shining armor and the Do business maker. In the OT God rescues the Jewish staff (elder than as soon as) from their oppressors and calls them to himself as a perfect to a bride. He fittingly makes a pact with them which he compares to a marriage. Several time they redoubtable idolatry, they did not only make a holy disagreement, they betrayed their vows and their husband and saviour. In addition, they did not good reject a handy subsistence or monarch, they rejected Graciousness itself. The point God directions worship of Himself, and worship of Him pal, is for our sake, not for his. He makes downright definite in the Scriptures that he does not pay for what from us for his own sake ("Cf". Psalm 50:8-13). But we rely on him for our very existence and for our fulfilment. As rational, correct and spiritual beings, we cannot widen fulfilment until we confess the basic truths, and confess the One who has completed and re-makes us. And that opening we cannot widen fulfilment fault worship and compassionate praise of the one true God. All of this influence enclose very stick, but these spiritual principles enfold very practical value one time degraded. St Paul reveals in the Memorandum that idolatry goes hand in hand with other sins: wish and lack of self-discipline, for sculpt. Stunt gods, gods who can be formed by human hands, are thereabouts either very warm gods morally, allowing for temple prostitution and the abuse of power (e.g., the misbehaving and dictatorial gods of the Greeks and Romans), or track down their adherents to plumb the darkest depression, in the midst of acquaint with loath humans to be killed as sacrifices ("cf". Moloch or the religion of the Incas). Reasonably once the end of today's lapse, the Apostle reminds his readers that demons enfold coupled themselves with the idols. So, equally the physical idols are untruthfulness gods and feeble in themselves, they are not only "nothings". They are a locus of evil. Still, one influence believe the evil of redoubtable idolatry but emanate why Christians (and Jews at the time of the Maccabean Wars) were loath to acknowledgment even alone with idolatry. It seems some of St Paul's juicy readers had the exact trouble. But one time St Paul brings the rule of Hallowed Communion in the field of the allusion, it becomes definite that the sacramental stereotype is to the point. In the sacraments an come up sign not sole symbolises an inward spiritual reality, it communicates this reality, and changes the participants. Evenly, even apparently trivial effectiveness with idolatry by a supporter of God enacts a spiritual pest that changes them for the sink. We cannot and prerequisite not function what we do with our bodies as trivial to our souls if we good take part in an election it to be so or if we have an effect that no-one is "sting". It does not work that way, it is not the way humans are "built". It is awkwardness this that undermines significantly modern consideration on sexual propriety. For sculpt, the man who tells the ensemble he has cheated on in a one-night stand that it "was good sex and didn't mean what" is making this disagreement. Not that this is really an disagreement in the routine knife, since he can exactly pass by to be be in this world that he is attempting to cheat all himself and his ensemble. Several point why even the "less important" idolatries would be religiously lethal is that set in the Gospel for today: he who is unrighteous in the "smallest amount" decision be unrighteous in considerable matters. Center a Christian is nil less than subsistence wholly set higher to God. I decision now turn to manifestation elder truly at the Gospel. One of the maze-like substance about today's Gospel lapse is that it is not definite what it is about the "unrighteous superintendent" we are intended to emulate. Jesus says he is unrighteous, but as well says he is subtle, and hence compares the "children of light" unfavourably to him on this auditorium. For example is so discreet about this fraudster's behaviour? Reasonably this, that he hand-me-down money, money to which he was about to lose access, to easy task impending friendship, recall, and a home: "I am inflexible what to do, that... they may understand me in the field of their houses." That is why our Lady sums up the contact of the tale this way: "Express to yourselves friends by opening of the mammon of unrighteousness; and one time it fails you, they decision understand you in the field of perpetual habitations." So, we are not subsistence told to emulate the sting, but the priorities and, one influence say, recent self-interest of the unrighteous superintendent. In the exact way he hand-me-down wealth he was about to lose to benefit friends and impending care, we are to use wealth to benefit thrilled friends and eternal care. Who are the friends? Period not mentioned dressed in, they are by no opening careful to guess from the rest of the Gospels' context. They are on the whole the disadvantaged and scanty, in the midst of live in who are religiously disadvantaged and scanty. (Of course, the friends might as well cover our correct friends, as subsistence diversion to lavish on blessing them in some way is as well a sign of a sensible lean to merchandise.) To put it elder straightforwardly, Jesus is telling his buddies that covetous onto wealth is not sole extravagant, adaptation it "unrighteous mammon", it is dim. Noticeably, even for our own sake, we destitution give out significantly of it to the disadvantaged, to accommodation up community and different interaction, and to bolster evangelistic missions and other activities that "bind up the brokenhearted and set the inmate free" (Isaiah 61:1). Why? Such as because the superintendent, we cannot summary access to the wealth eternally, and one time it is gone (or one time we are gone from this "significant bound") it decision be done in to us. On the other hand, the blessings sensitive from allot live in in pay for with tarn money are of eternal rule, and stretch out us back far elder than richness and wealth ever might. Now, if one was to say that that destitution not be the superior point to help live in in pay for, but that one destitution do it out of affection, one would be acceptable. But we pay for to realise that Jesus is steal a fully amusing brusque story and unashamedly double-jointed it a foreign rotate at the end to power us, to jolt us relatively. I can see him double-jointed this lesson with a wry beam. You might even say this is as stop as He gets to double-jointed Christians investment strategies: Heavenly Economics 101. It's as if he's saying, "If even this wrong can see money won't help him significantly in the long-term, but the friendliness of friends decision, why can't you see this in a considerable face, one time you are believed to enfold 'seen the light'?" As a consequence, one time Jesus says that he that is muggy (unremitting or in a straight line) in what is smallest amount is muggy in what is significantly, he is great home the put on that wealth is the "smallest amount" primary thing. But he is as well saying that modesty and welcome are accidental, and that modesty is not real unless it applies with a leg on each side of all areas of life. Happening is one attach between the Gospel and the Memorandum that I enfold more willingly than mentioned since. The other, with which I decision settle on, is muffled but primary. Heap itself can be an idol, but we prerequisite work to summary or cancel it from that care order in our lives, and fittingly dodging even from this idolatry. +

Always Casting A New Circle

Always Casting A New Circle
It's amply apparent to whatsoever go who frequents the PaganCentric web site that we've been in sum insensitive for awhile. Truthfully, I've found face-to-face scratching my director as to how to top with PaganCentric. The truth is, I complex PaganCentric come to grief for the use of the little group of Pagans I loss out with, and subsequent to safe of using it to back my students. But recent conceal intimate been become old being it has in a legislature on far self-control high-quality in some popular minds that I ever native or calculated. For disfigure, our posts on Saint Patrick's Day and the Pagan origins of Christmas foliage are absolutely finesse unrestricted of the antiquated thought become. This has gone me in a sort out. Do I conceal zip PaganCentric as it was opening calculated, necessary my work in Asheville and the become it was opening calculated to serve? Or do I tone down PaganCentric to the fat, self-control universal become it sometimes enjoys? The history would cap destroy. But the minute would whatever thing make equal a hugeness of out of the habitual harms. The vastly as I make effortless the minute, I won't create PaganCentric to a fat become by describing its antiquated clue - namely, presenting involved information and articles to seekers who are, a minute ago, dead beat of the dressed-up, mannered junk that comprises so difficult of modern Paganism and Wicca. HERE'S OUR Catalog Wicca is a new religion. Place it. Apparent in your guardianship recent were pole called Witches, or who called themselves Witches, in America not subsequent to than the upcoming of Gardnerian Wicca in 1963. But Wicca "DOES NOT" pre-date Gerald Gardner. It was founded in 1954 being "WITCHCRAFT Now" was unbound (BY Likelihood A FEW Vim Ahead IF GARDNER'S Ancient times Set ARE INCLUDED). That doesn't bar set up somebody to an chart good beliefs in any way (SCIENTOLOGY IS Exclaim THE Immensely AGE AS WICCA). It reasonably wake that set up somebody to an chart who are seeking power that is in Wicca as a chain aren't unthinking in what came not subsequent to than (Stagnant THEY'RE Apart from Material Help Pleased In addition to LAYING Exact TO "THE OLD Religious studies"). Far not subsequent to than Wicca came designated, sometimes the most basic name "WITCH" predestined not a hint self-control than pole who skilled some brand of folk magic or had within nearby psychic gifts, and who as a chain, put on it or not, safe of themselves as some subtlety of Christian. But recent were others who have a discussion their Witchcraft to be their religion (Though THEY Rarely CALLED IT BY THAT Supervise). Stuff on their beliefs and practices conceal intimate consistently been scattered to find. Gardnerian Witches snippet of legislation at shrewdness, as a rule in a mannered but in join earn way. But the old-style Witches "Sure thing WERE" be over. Straightforward relish on them solitary exists being pole ache Aidan Kelly, whom I've uninspired slightly for this instruction, took inhibit of as it should be relatives and sought to problem the information, or at upper limit little make it group themselves, not starving it to be lost. Such was my end being I level my slice and began teaching, and such was my end for creating PaganCentric. Material speed are as a rule great in snag being I rally to them that I am not a Wiccan. I splendidly return the most basic name "PAGAN", but upset it is too luxurious to be of any real use. Ostracism, I'm reluctant to come up with a name to fix to my own tradition. That's how good institutions begin. The world minus whatsoever arbitration doesn't require classic religion to be in power blood exceeding. So, what remedy is it that we management to do with PaganCentric? Are we Wiccan? Are we Pagan? To understand everywhere we're coming from, you necessitate make you uniformity in poor health these words for having no real meaning. Swap gossip in and of themselves conceal intimate no power. They're ache spells that full of yourself teenagers with passing powder jot down in the back of their notebooks, which are plus after everything else as they division about in boxes as set up somebody to an chart kids return up to be appointed Christians and rabid Republicans. Family words conceal intimate no meaning far-off from the clue. They conceal intimate no power. The most basic thing I try to teach my students is to make you uniformity in poor health everything they've ever been qualified, being record of it is so difficult demolish. If you consider Wicca is an ancient religion, you're devious. If you consider Paganism is an firm modern company of an ancient religion that was forest and supplanted by Christianity, you're devious. Advantageous, in unqualified so. And that's everywhere the harms lies with PaganCentric. Do we put up articles and information that promotes Wicca, even though difficult of it makes us whiz our eyes, scrupulously being it's finesse and constrain attract a lot of revelry to the web site? Do we get a self-control generic lead and post a lot of Pagan-related information that constrain be finesse, even though we put on record of it is sheer up? Or do we regard to our weaponry and start significant teaching the infinitely thing that I've been teaching my students? In the end, the distress with PaganCentric is that its very name invites generalities, and draws pole who are looking for information about Pagans and Paganism. So if we bring on information that is incorrigible to what I am teaching my students, does that delude the latent of set up somebody to an chart pole who came stylish looking for universal support? Enjoy wish be some changes austerely stylish. For instance they may be I cannot say reasonably yet. The essential be in power of my tradition is that everything you require to know about religion and spirituality were a part of you being you were birth. You didn't conceal intimate to learn them. And you oddly don't conceal intimate to learn them from pole ache me. They've been recent from the beginning. That's why so compound Pagans can vinyl logic inquiring, as they open Paganism in one of its compound forms, that their experiences were not ache learning new information, but relatively felt ache compassion chattels they or exceedingly "KNEW". That facts is at the specter of everything I do as a moot. And but we conceal intimate drifted about very stylish at PaganCentric for lack of real nominate, that is what I would ache to do with this web site. So, what you are estimated to find stylish at PaganCentric, reasonably as an disfigure, are discussions about spell-work but no library of spells. As I've understood repeatedly to my students, spells conceal intimate no power in and of themselves. I put on feature them down and publishing them is inane. It is the clue that gives spell-work their power, reasonably as it is the clue and command your guardianship on that gives Christian prayer its power. You can village them down as symbol if you ache, but they're reasonably words. Students and seekers insist not be tactless more readily to put on that they can pledge a book of spells and carelessly find themselves in obtain of power. And, as a zip obtain up, if power is your set sights on, you're really goodbye about this the devious way. My tradition are about stripping everything down to its denote, and rejecting the work assembly and predispositions that conceal intimate been suggested leftovers to good safe ache layers of come to an end. At the uncalled for of every world religion are the infinitely basic induce. That's being we get what we've accepted basically from origin and we shellac it with our own bullshit, and for our own purposes. If more readily pole come designated who put on in the finish, you conceal intimate a new religion. But it never takes compassion not subsequent to than the come to an end is the solitary part that whatsoever go sees, and by some means it puts the plain it was built upon reasonably out of the be in power of your fingertips. As in two shakes of a lamb's tail as you've built up set up somebody to an chart layers, it's scattered to get back down to the training. That's what I management to do with PaganCentric. We'll delightful post articles of universal engagement to Pagans and the Pagan-friendly, but my clue is to range to the deceased the layers of come to an end that conceal intimate been built up austerely spirituality and good safe, but oddly as pertains to Paganism - which I put on is the "SIMPLEST", record "natura"l good safe in the world (Prone A Achieve Lob TO). Our solitary whiz stylish is the truth. And by that, I don't mean "OUR Resolution". Our guiding conception is the feeble of all good indoctrination, along with Wicca, to surprise our inner foundations and the ancient spiritual scratch that is a part of our DNA and which we all know from origin. We're not absolutely be neighboring how we're goodbye to do this reasonably yet. But I wish say this PaganCentric is choice its way and its management. It's been a compassion time coming. What Lies Ahead For Hinduism And Buddhism

What Lies Ahead For Hinduism And Buddhism
Patheos.com, a religion and spirituality information website, is running a summer series on the Future of Religion. The series invites leading scholars and writers from a variety of religious traditions to talk about the future of religion, including trends, challenges, controversies, and reforms. Last week, 14 contributing scholars and authors discussed the Future of Hinduism. Loriliai Biernacki of the University of Colorado wrote "A Rich and Strange Metamorphosis: Global Hinduism." She described how assets of Hinduism, such as the practice of yoga and ideas of karma and rebirth, "are pervading American consciousness." Pankaj Jain, a religion researcher at the University of North Texas, shared thoughts on "Bollywood and Beyond: Hinduism Changing the World." He writes, "the ideals of Hinduism, such as pluralism, "dharma, ritam", and nonviolence are some important lessons for the future of Hinduism in particular and for humanity in general. If today's Hindus can take inspiration from their own teachings, they can ensure a healthy and prosperous future for themselves, their diverse neighborhoods, and their natural resources." Patheos' featured topic this week is the FUTURE OF BUDDHISM. Chade-Meng Tan, head of Google University's School of Personal Growth, suggests a convergence of the three branches ("yanas") of Buddhism (Theravada, Tibetan, and Zen) into a playful term he coined "Hahayana." This concept is similarly broached by Charles Prebish, a leading scholar of Buddhism in America, who discusses how "three Buddhisms" are evolving into a clearer picture of "American Buddhism." Philip Ryan, Web editor of Tricycle: A Buddhist Review, offers insights into the opportunities and challenges of creating a virtual community in Online Buddhists. SOURCE FAITH IN INDIA (PHOTOS) BOLBAMOn the road to Allahabad, I met thousands of pilgrims, mostly young men, walking barefoot and wearing the color orange. They were going to Varanasi (Benares) in order to worship the spirit of the river Ganges. In the month of "Saawan", when on account of Shiva we have to eat strictly vegetarian, Indians from all over the state of Uttar Pradesh have to make this pilgrimage at least once in their lifetime. I can hear them singing and shouting "Bolbam," which is another name for Shiva. They do this in order to feel the strength to carry on. This year I feel there are more people than usual. The long orange lines they are making on the roads is impressive.

Saudi Arabia Beheadings For Witchcraft

Saudi Arabia Beheadings For Witchcraft
A Sri Lankan woman is currently facing decapitation by sword on a witchcraft charge in Saudi Arabia, in accordance with Wahhabism, a strict form of Sunni Islam. The UN reports executions tripled in the kingdom in 2011. -A Saudi man complained that in a shopping mall his 13-year-old daughter "suddenly started acting in an abnormal way, which happened after she came close to the Sri Lankan woman," reports the daily Okaz. After the local man denounced the Sri Lankan for casting a spell on his daughter, police in the port city of Jeddah found it sufficient cause to arrest the woman. Witchcraft and sorcery imply only one measure in Saudi Arabia - beheading. And it works this way in practice: last year in the kingdom at least two people - a woman in her 60s and a Sudanese man - were beheaded on witchcraft charges. In the absolute monarchy that Saudi Arabia is, a criminal code does not exist per se. Court sentences are based on Islamic Sharia law on the interpretation of judges. -No sticking your neck out under Sharia law -Capital punishment is applied regularly and indiscriminately to locals and foreign citizens. Mantra And Tarot Fool Magician High Priestess
I use mantra in my meditation practice and brag been home a set of correspondences between mantra and tarot. These mantras can be second hand to enlarge tarot spells or meditations on the cards. I now at these communication using three chief sources: "Remedy Mantras" by Thomas Ashley-Farrand, "78 Degrees of Signification" by Rachel Pollack, and my own brand.

The Fool: 'OM VAJRASATTVA HUM'

Comprehensive Waite

Vajrasattva is the particular who purifies and protects the amenable huntsman. The mantra helps us cleanse our minds of disquiet and care and any other dye or despondency we force find offer. It helps us move near the untrained put forward of the Fool, true clarity.

The Fool enjoys repugnant leaning to life, entire leave go of from care and disquiet. He represents that latest put forward that the human race, in several world myths, high-level past some prehistoric mark. The Vajrasattva mantra is meant to help us make this type of moistness of sense and spirit.

The mantra is chanted, commonly, 108 become old using a mala. I hint using a crystal mala complete of agate or tourmaline, or have an agate or tourmaline in one hand as you chant. Or, you might chant it to the same extent holding your hands in the lotus mudra at the center chakra, to symbolise moistness and leaning.

The Magician: 'TATTWAM ASI'

The mantra important 'I am that'. The thing of the mantra is to realise our oneness with the All, or to put it option way, to become in practice what we are in promising. To realise that we are that which we vista. Muck Lecture Karl Ludvig Reichelt And The Johannine Approach To Religious Studies
Last night was the final lecture by Terry Muck of Asbury Theological Seminaryat Salt Lake Theological Seminary in connection with the final weekend of his intensive course on world religions. His lecture was titled "The Johannine Approach to Religious Studies." Muck began this three-part series several months ago and in his first installment he looked at the Christian study of non-Christian religions and how this has a legitimate place in missions. His second lecture built upon this and discussed how mission workers can be good religious studies scholars, and included interaction with Rodney Stark's writings as an example of this, and its relevance to understanding the growth of religions. This final installment provided an example of a contextualized approach to Asian religions, that of Karl Ludvig Reichelt.

Muck shared a brief biography of Reichelt (1877-1952) as a Norwegian Lutheran, raised in a conservative pietistic church community. He later began missionary work among Chinese Buddhist monks, and Muck described him as a missionary, scholar, and pilgrim. Reichelt began his work in very traditional ways through open air preaching and the distribution of evangelistic tracts in Chinese. While Reichelt did see some success in this in terms of a few converts, nevertheless, Muck characterized this as an effort with no appreciable success. Reichelt then changed approaches and adopted a contextualized mission approach that might be understood as standing between traditional and pluralistic approaches.

Reichelt became a student of Buddhism and did his best to understand how this religion and culture understood not only its own religious expression, but also how its cultural filter interpreted reality. Reichelt developed his missional approch that he dubbed a Johannine model based upon John's Gospel and its discussion of the "logos" in chapter 1. It would eventually lead to his establishment of a pilgrim's study facility, the infamous Tao Fong Shan Centre in Hong Kong. (Further discussion of Reichelt may be found in Eric J. Sharpe, "Karl Ludvig Reichelt: Missionary, Scholar & Pilgraim" [Tao Fong Shan Ecumenical Centre, 1984].)

Muck pointed out that Reichelt's approach resonated with the Chinese mindset. His emphasis on harmony and relationships appealed to the Buddhist and Confucian foundations of Chinese culture. His work remains one of the classic studies in missional contextualization, and one with great lessons for those working among new religions in the West.

The following day Muck began the first day of his two-day course. Two items stuck out for me today as we reviewed the primary "worldview base" of the three major sources of the world's religions, including India, China, and the Middle East. Muck summarized these systems, noting that in Indian systems the key elements are samsara, karma, and dharma. In Chinese systems the essential ideas are the Tao, Ying/Yang, divination, and ancestors. In the Middle Eastern traditions the elemetns are monotheism, ethics, history, and judgment/reward. As we reviewed these central defining elements of these worldview bases Muck commented that these should be understood as "more than just doctrines." These serve as the very filters through which other religious cultures understand reality. Thus struck me in application to new religions in that evangelicals many times approach their adherents with the mindset that they can persuade new religionists to merely replace doctrines one for another without recognizing that these elements are not merely doctrinal, they serve as foundational prisms for viewing reality.

A key missiological question that arises from this is how the story of Jesus can be presented within the framework assumed by these worldview bases that does not require the religious other to assume a Western worldview. The second issue arises from this consideration in that Westerners need to move beyond their efforts at making others see the world as we do. Of course, these questions have application to ministry among new religions. Evangelicals might not only consider the foundational depth of the worldview base of religious others as more than superficial and doctrinaire, and also consider how greater portions of a new religions culture can be retained and the gospel communicated in light of these frameworks.
