Although technically these simple spells should work for you regardless of your path or tradition, if you do see yourself on a spiritual path, Penczak suggests thanking the divine powers, the Goddess, God, and Great Spirit, for every gift, even those that did not occur. If an act of instant magick does not happen as you intended, there is probably a reason for it. Perhaps being late for work even though you tried to bend time might have prevented you from being in an accident. Giving thanks is a great lesson for any path, because gratitude opens up a new world of blessings.

Now that you have an idea of what instant magick can do, try this meditation to program your own trigger. This exercise should be repeated several times to ingrain the program into all levels of consciousness.

EXERCISE 12: PROGRAMMING YOUR TRIGGER

1. First decide on what trigger position feels comfortable to you. Penczak suggets your first two fingers and thumb together or crossing your middle and index fingers. 2. Start Exercise 9: Counting Down to a Meditative State to get into your magickal mindset. 3. Once you are at your meditative level, physically perform your trigger on one or both hands. Penczak says he likes to program both hands so he has a choice as to which one he uses, depending on the circumstances. He says if he triggers both hands that he feels he goes a bit deeper. 4. State to yourself, 'I program this as my instant magick trigger. With this trigger I can instantly access a light meditative state and all my magickal abilities for the good of allo, harming none.' Say this statement three times. 5. When done, return yourself to normal consciousness, counting up, giving yourself clearance and balance. Ground yourself as needed.

When you hold the trigger position, you enter a light magickal mindset. When you need to get out of this state, release the trigger. The process is that simple.

Christopher Penczak wrote a book titled "Instant Magick" and it was published in 2006 - it will give many more techniques of instant magick... I have a copy but sadly I've never checked through it. After posting this information on Instant Magick from "The Inner Temple of Witchcraft" I think I will be looking this book also.

Serenity is the one that frees the mind from impurities and inner obstacles. It also gives the person who practices meditation greater penetrative strength. If you develop serenity, then you also develop your mind. When your mind is developed, you are then able to abandon greed, hate, delusion, and other defilements (klesas). SAMATHA AND VIPASSANA Buddhists generally divide the subject of meditation into two interconnected systems: the DEVELOPMENT OF SERENITY (samatha meditation) and the DEVELOPMENT OF INSIGHT (vipassana meditation). Samatha meditation is aimed at focusing the mind on an object in a steady manner while vipassana meditation is a way of investigating the object. Since the attainment of insight requires a certain degree of concentration, samatha meditation helps to achieve this. Although it seems logical to first develop serenity (samatha) before insight (vipassana), some teachers claim that the two can be developed simultaneously. Samatha and vipassana are not separate paths of practice, but are complementary ways of experiencing the nature of events as they occur in the present moment. With samatha, you experience calmness and bliss, which help prevent the manifestations of sensual desire, anger, or restlessness that can occur when the mind is trapped against its will in the present moment. With vipassana, you get a clear view of events as they actually occur. This helps keep serenity from becoming stagnant and dull. Samatha can provide a great sense of joy and bliss, but these can quickly diminish after meditation. Some people develop a sense of attachment to these experiences and therefore overlook the importance of developing insight through vipassana meditation. Therefore, if you have attained some level of skill with samatha, you must also make an effort to develop vipassana or vice versa. SAMATHA MEDITATION AND THE JHaNASThe Jhanas (states of meditative absorption) can be developed both in samatha and vipassana meditation, but they essentially belong to samatha. Jhanas are states of profound awareness which result from focusing your mind upon a single object with such power of attention that a total immersion in the object takes place. Jhanas perform two functions for the person who makes use of samatha as their vehicle for enlightenment. First, they provide a basis of mental purity and tranquility needed for undertaking the work of developing insight. Before wisdom can arise, your mind must first be calm and concentrated. This can only be possible if your mind is freed from the Five Hindrances to Meditation. Jhanas serve as powerful instruments for overcoming these hindrances. Second, the jhanas serve as objects to be examined with insight (vipassana) in order to discern the Three Marks of Existence: impermanence, suffering, and non-self.THE SAMATHAYANIKAA person who practices samatha meditation is called a samathayanika or "one who makes serenity his vehicle"." A samathayanika first attains one of the eight mundane jhanas and then develops insight by means of which he reaches the "supramundane path" containing wisdom under Right View and the "supramundane jhanas" under Right Concentration. Note: "Mundane" refers to that which belongs to the world of the five aggregates while "supramundane" refers to that which is beyond the world of the five aggregates. Hello! My name is Grace Elliot and today I'm going to post about two of the things that fascinate me - history and animals!

I live in the UK and this summer, Londonplays host to the 2012 Olympics. Any excuse and it's on the news, yesterday it was a cycling event in the new velodrome and tomorrow it will probably be the over-inflated price of Olympic souvenirs. But did you know that the first Olympic games were held around 776 BC?

Apparently this date was arrived at by working backwards in four year leaps from a definitive date written about by Thucydides in 420 BC.

Unlike our games, the ancients held four sets of sacred games which commemorated the daring deeds of their heroes: the Pythian, Isthmian, Nemean and Olympic games. Over the millennia it is only the Olympics that still hold any significance for us today.

The Olympics were so named after a group of twelve superhumans who came from Olympiaand were worshipped by the Pisatans. They thought Zeus lived on the top of Mount Olympuswith his wife (who was also his sister!), Hera and their family. The ancient Greeks also believed that what Zeus and his family did had influence over their lives and so they were keen to please their gods. They did this by displays of athleticism, and running races to the altar of Zeus, which then went on to become the basis of their festival.

So that is a potted history of the origins of the Olympics - but I mentioned animals - where do they fit in? Well, many of the original Olympians were associated with animals. First, let's look at Poseidon (Zeus' brother), god of the sea and earthquakes, and consider how he came to create that most magnificent of animals, the horse.

Apparently Poseidon fell in love with Demeter, the goddess of the earth and harvest. However Demeter didn't feel the same but didn't want to anger him. She hit on a plan to buy time and agreed to marry Poseidon on the condition he created a new animal that was more beautiful than anything on earth. Demeter felt she was on pretty safe ground because Poseidon's forte was making ugly serpents and sea monsters. As it happened, Demeter was safe, but not for the reason she thought. Poseidon did create an animal - the horse - but was so struck by the creatures beauty and power that he forgot all about Demeter!

Poseidon eventually fathered the legendary winged horse, Pegasus, after a union with Medusa. The story goes that when the Greek hero, Perseus, slew the Medusa, Pegasus sprang from her pregnant body and with one kick of his hoof made the river Hippocrene flow: the waters of which are reputed to inspire the poets.

The unbroken Pegusus was given by the gods, as a gift to a Corinthian hero, Bellerophon, for killing a fire-breathing monster that had a lion's head, goat's body and serpent's tail. But Bellerophon needed help to break Pegasus and make him rideable. This assistance came in the form of the goddess Athena who told him where to find the golden bridle which would tame the winged horse.

Sadly, having such a wonderful mount went to Bellerophon's head. He became arrogant and decided to visit the home of the gods at the top of Mount Olympus. The watching Zeus was not amused by this invasion of privacy. He sent a gadfly to sting Pegasus who reared and threw Bellerophon off - and being mortal, the fall to earth killed him.

However the winged stallion eventually became the bearer of Zeus' thunderbolts and was rewarded with his own constellation in the heavens.

Keeping things in the family, the Olympian Hephaestus [son of Zeus and Hera] became the god of Blacksmiths and Artemis [daughter of Zeus and Leto] the goddess of the Hunt. Their half brother Hermes [son of Zeus and Maia] a bit of a wastrel by comparison, found an empty tortoiseshell, strung it with strings and invented the first lyre.

So there we have it - Poseidon took time off from making sea-serpents and monsters to create the horse!
