The Daedala

The Daedala
This is the name given to two festivals held in ancient Boeotia, which was a part of Greece, in honor of the reconciliation of Hera and Zeus. According to the myth, Hera and Zeus quarreled and Hera went away to Euboea and refused to return to his bed. To trick her into coming back and on the advice of Cithaeron, Zeus dressed up a carved oak-trunk to resemble a bride and let it be known that he planned to marry Plataea, the daughter of Asopus. Hera was so angry she tore the clothes from the statue, discovered the deception, and was so pleased that the two were reconciled.

The Lesser Daedala ( ) was held every four to six years. The people of Plataea went to an ancient oak grove and exposed pieces of cooked meat to ravens, attentively watching upon which tree any of the birds, after taking a piece of meat, would settle. Out of this tree they carved an image, and having it dressed as a bride, they set it on a bullock cart with a bridesmaid beside it. The image seems then to have been drawn to the bank of the river Asopus and back to the town, attended by a cheering crowd.

After fourteen of these cycles (approx.59 or 60 years), the GREATER DAEDALA ( ) was held, and all Boeotia joined in the celebration. At its start one wooden figure was chosen from the many that had accumulated through the years and designated the "bride". The wooden figure was prepared as a bride for a wedding, ritually bathed in the Asopus, adorned and raised on a wagon with an attendant. This wagon led a procession of wains carrying the accumulated daedala (all the other images that had been created over the years) up to the summit of Mount Kithairon, where a wooden sacrificial altar was erected out of square pieces of wood.

This was covered with a quantity of dry wood, and the towns, persons of rank, and other wealthy individuals, offered each a heifer to Hera and a bull to Zeus with plenty of wine and incense, while at the same time all of the daedala were placed upon the altar. For those who did not possess sufficient means, it was customary to offer small sheep, but all these offerings were immolated in a hecatomb in the same manner as those of the wealthier persons. The fire consumed both offerings and altar

AN ANCIENT ACCOUNT OF MYTH BEHIND THE FESTIVAL IS RELATED BY PAUSANIAS:

"Hera, they say, was for some reason or other angry with Zeus, and had retreated to Euboia. Zeus, failing to make her change her mind, visited Kithairon, at that time despot in Plataea, who surpassed all men for his cleverness. So he ordered Zeus to make an image of wood, and to carry it, wrapped up, in a bullock wagon, and to say that he was celebrating his marriage with Plataia, the daughter of Asopus. So Zeus followed the advice of Kithairon. Hera heard the news at once, and at once appeared on the scene. But when she came near the wagon and tore away the dress from the image, she was pleased at the deceit, on finding it a wooden image and not a bride, and was reconciled to Zeus. To commemorate this reconciliation they celebrate a festival called Daidala, because the men of old time gave the name of daidala to wooden images... the Plataeans hold the festival of the Daidala every six years, according to the local guide, but really at a shorter interval. I wanted very much to calculate exactly the interval between one Daedala and the next, but I was unable to do so. In this way they celebrate the feast."

Paranormal Phenomenon Lamia

Paranormal Phenomenon Lamia
In Greek mythology, Lamia was a Queen of Libya who became a child-murdering daemon. In later writings she is pluralized into many lamiae (Greek lamiai). Similar in type to other female monsters from Greco-Roman myth, such as the empuses and the mormolyces, she is distinguished from them by her description as half-woman and half-serpent.Her name comes from the "gullet" (Greek: Laimos), since she devoured human children.

Lamia was the daughter of Poseidon and Lybie, a personification of the country of Libya and a queen of Libya herself, whom Zeus loved. Hera discovered the affair and stole away Lamia's children, whereupon Lamia in her grief became a monster and began murdering children. Zeus granted her the power of prophecy as an attempt at appeasement, as well as the related ability to temporarily remove her eyes.Either Hera turned her into a monster, she was transformed by grief over the murder of all her children (except Scylla), or she was already one of Hecate's brood. Plutarch heard that Lamia had the gift to be able to take her eyes out and then put them back in. A later elaboration on this archaic mytheme is that this gift was given by Zeus, and further, that Lamia was cursed with the inability to close her eyes so that she would always obsess over the image of her dead children.

Horace, in Ars Poetica (l.340) imagined the impossibility of retrieving the living children she had engulfed: Neu pranse Lamiae vivum puerum extrabat alvo. Alexander Pope translates the line: Shall Lamia in our sight her sons devour, and give them back alive the self-same hour? Apuleius, in The Golden Ass, describes the witch Meroe and her sister as Lamiae

"The three major enchantresses of the novel-Meroe, Panthia and Pamphylia-also reveal many vampiric qualities generally associated with Lamiae," David Walter Leinweber has noticed. Stesichorus identifies Lamia as the mother of Scylla by Triton. Further passing references to Lamia were made by Strabo (i.II.8) and Aristotle (Ethics vii.5). In the Vulgate, Jerome translated Lilith, the spirit in Isaiah 34:14 who conceived by Adam a brood of monsters, as lamia, thus sealing Lamia's image as a seductress in the Christian imagination.

Mothers used to threaten their children with the story of Lamia.Leinweber states, "She became a kind of fairy-tale figure, used by mothers and nannies to induce good behavior among children.

Many lurid details were conjured up by later writers, assembled in the Suda, expanded upon in Renaissance poetry and collected in Bulfinch and in Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable: Lamia was envious of other mothers and ate their children. She was usually female, but Aristophanes suggests a hermaphroditic phallus, perhaps simply for monstrosity's sake.Leinweber notes, "By the time of Apuleius, not only were Lamia characteristics liberally mixed into popular notions of sorcery, but at some level the very names were interchangeable." Nicolas K. Kiessling compared the lamia with the medieval succubus and Grendel in Beowulf.

One interpretation posits that the Lamia may have been a seductress, as in Philostratus' Life of Apollonius of Tyana, where the philosopher Apollonius reveals to the young bridegroom, Menippus, that his hastily-married wife is really a lamia, planning to devour him. Some harlots were named "Lamia". The connection between Demetrius Poliorcetes and the courtesan Lamia was notorious. In the painting by Herbert James Draper (1909, illustration above), the Lamia who moodily watches the serpent on her forearm appears to represent a hetaira. Though the lower body of Draper's Lamia is human, he alludes to her serpentine history by draping a shed snake skin about her waist.

In Renaissance emblems, Lamia has the body of a serpent and the breasts and head of a woman, like the image of hypocrisy John Keats described the Lamia in Lamia and Other Poems, presenting a description of thevarious colors of Lamia that was based on Burton's, in The Anatomy of Melancholy.

In the modern Greek folk tradition, the Lamia has survived and retained many of her traditional attributes. John Cuthbert Lawson remarks that "....the chief characteristics of the Lamiae, apart from their thirst for blood, are their uncleanliness, their gluttony, and their stupidity"The contemporary Greek proverb, ("the Lamia's sweeping"), epitomises slovenliness; and the common expression, " ' " ("the child has been strangled by the Lamia"), explains the sudden death of young children (ibid). As in Bulgarian folklore and Basque legends, the Lamia in Greece is often associated with caves and damp places.

In modern Greek folk tales, Lamia is an ogress similar to Baba-Yaga. She lives in a remote house or tower, eats human flesh, has magical abilities, keeps magical objects, or knows information crucial to the hero of the tale's quest. The hero must avoid her, trick her, or gain her favour in order to obtain one of those. In some tales, the lamia has a daughter who is also a magician and helps the hero, eventually falling in love with him.

A creature with particularities slightly "Lamian" appears in the movie Pan's Labyrinth, complete with a hunger for children and eyes that are not in its sockets. The figure of Aughra, a character in The Dark Crystal, while not carnivorous, shares with her the latter characteristic.

The Lamia also makes an appearance in the rock opera "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway", composed and recorded by the progressive rock group Genesis in 1974, with libretto by Peter Gabriel. Gabriel's interpretation has three Lamia appearing to the protagonist, Rael, in a very sexualized scenario. When their love-bites draw blood from their human lover, they wither and die, whereupon Rael feels compelled to taste their flesh. This act transforms him into a grotesque creature, a Slipperman. How much of this imagery, beyond the Lamia's half-woman, half serpent form, is drawn from mythological sources, as opposed to Gabriel's own vivid imagination, is a matter of some debate in progressive-rock circles.

Hecate 2

Hecate

Once a fairly benign goddess in early Greek times, Hecate became the dread Greek-Roman Goddess of ghosts, a close confidante of Persephone and a patron of witches.

The brutally wronged Hecuba of Troy was reincarnated as Her black bitches, who accompanied Her on Her night walks.

Hecate was worshipped at three-way crossroads at night even by ordinary Greek families and could ward off ghosts if properly propitiated. But Romans also believed She had more sinister worshippers -- the witches and sorceresses who could coerce even the gods to do their will.

When Persephone was kidnapped by Hades in the later Greek myth, far-seeing Hecate was the only one who witnessed it.

Spacegods Eleven To Heaven
We continue our inexorable voyage into a brave new world, where ancient myths and futuristic technology walk hand in hand. A world where the last secular pretenses of the 20th Century give way to a restoration of the oldest world order imaginable.

Last week we saw the 10th Anniversary of the International Space Station, launched from the Russian Zurya ("Dawn") staging ground. Fast on its heels is "news" that a "private" company is planning trips to ISiS. Of course, the "private" part is pure pretense, since ISiS and the rest of the extraplanetary infrastructure we will see fall into place almost overnight falls under the aegis of the most sensitive military and intelligence components of the emerging world order:

A private firm has test-fired a rocket that could soon be flying cargo and astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS).The SpaceX company fired the engines of its Falcon 9 rocket for three minutes - the length of time taken for the launcher to climb towards orbit. The politically correct American eagle place-holds for his Egyptian cousin

The Falcon 9- isn't that beautiful? Isn't that perfect? Of course, this is the clock being turned back from the quaint, collegiate Hellenism of the Apollo Program to its original model with the falcon-headed Horus. Let's remember who History teaches us preceded the Pharaohs on the Eternal Throne:

Before these men, they said, the rulers of Egypt were gods, but none had been contemporary with the human priests. Of these gods one or another had in succession been supreme; the last of them to rule the country was Osiris' son Horus, whom the Greeks call Apollo; he deposed Typhon, and was the last divine king of Egypt. Osiris is, in the Greek language, Dionysus. - Herodotus, Book 2, Chapter 144But it gets better. Aside from being the most phallic rocket ever built, the Falcon 9 is carrying an interesting payload:

The company wants Falcon 9 to make its maiden flight by the first quarter of 2009. Initially, it will just loft satellites, including the British-built-and-operated Hylas broadband and TV spacecraft. Hylas spacecraft, wonderful! For those of you who didn't see Jason and the Argonauts, Hylas was the name of the young man whom Hercules took as his lover. So having Horus- the god who ultimately gave Hercules his name- lift Hylas to Heaven is only fitting, and reminscent of Zeus-in the form of an eagle- taking his own young lover, Ganymede, into outer space. Ganymede then became the water-carrier, who is the archetype of our emerging Age of Aquarius. And Zeus became the Budweiser eagle, as we looked at back in June when Anheuser-Busch was absorbed into the Global Economic Singularity.

Hercules & Hylas and Zeus ">But SpaceX aims to use the vehicle to launch its Dragon capsule soon afterwards. The capsule is being designed to carry both supplies and people to the space station.Dragon! Parsons would have loved that one! He'd also have loved the fact that despite the Worldwide Financial Crisis, everyone and their grandmother seems hell-bent on getting into the Heavens. The European Space Agency just met in The Hague to set their agenda for their own appointment with the gods. Things are coming so fast and furious one would almost think that...

Musing Upon Muses
In ancient Greek mythology, the muses were goddesses or spirits who uplift the creation of literature and art. State were alone three muses, but the group last grew to nine. In Restoration and Neoclassical art, the muses were arrange with explicit props to help last name them. Calliope (immense verse) carries a text tablet; Clio (history) carries a scroll and books; Erato (elegiac verse) has a lyre and a cap of roses; Euterpe (music) carries a flute; Melpomene (urgent situation) has a affecting mask; Polyhymnia (sacred verse) habitually has a indefinable expression; Terpsichore (escapade) is habitually portrayed dancing and vehicle a lyre; Thalia (joking) is naturally portrayed with a comical mask; and Urania (astronomy) carries a connect of compasses and the celestial foxhole. The word "brood over" is second hand in modern English to abate to an symbol of hope, but along with exists in "amuse", "museum" (from muselon -- a temple anywhere the muses were worshipped), "music", and "thought upon."Normally muses accept been pretty goddesses. So far I've had three muses, and they are all women. I don't know if women writers, artists and musicians accept male muses.Sometimes a in performance brood over may hoard backbreaking signal, but sometimes a brood over may establish be lurking in the film of the carefulness. Sometimes a brood over order be floating better, still observing, clear and moving.Resourcefulness habitually includes an innate pine for to request, perhaps going back to childhood and from way back when we wish to make mommy cheerful so we get fed. Equally a brood over is of the differing sex, portray can be a courtship aspect. Customary if portray is no consequence, a person behind can be encouraged to do exceptional and exceptional, to win the goal of the goddess. A male person behind may even hallucination having sex with the goddess, and his words become a mysterious gift, in the function of flowers or chocolate or jewelry such as dating or unmanageable to seduce. Elton John wrote, "My gift is my declare and this one's for you."For most of my text rush I wrote about jam, and how the social order aligned to jam.Near here five existence ago I became hail text about the social order imperfect the jam, and text story as well as non-fiction. This coincided with my reconnecting by email with "D," a girlfriend from college -- and near my partner. Behind schedule a such as she lost imply in communicating with me, and I dormant text the book she emotional me to start. I last reconnected with "P," one of the opening females I was fascinated to. I party my cookies with her in moment band. Her apparition helped me hinder the book. This court I at the end became hail text about emotions. This data evolutionary movement coincided with my re-connecting with "R." She was a very data girlfriend from high school, and the opening woman I consideration about marrying. She has become my most powerful brood over and is full-fledged for my "conclusion" as a person behind. This brood over and I may highlighter a book together. I assurance we'll be fair to amuse each other.I've been connubial for lifeless 37 existence, but I never consideration my partner was my brood over. Doubtless like I did win her goal and we did join and are still together, there's less taunt to request her. Doubtless her newspaper physical apparition weakens the greater than spiritual sorority within your rights for thought. I don't know. Probably she really has been one of my muses but I establish didn't complete it. (some info from Wikipedia)

Something changes for 12-year-old Athena the day she is summoned from Search to Intensify Olympus by none other than her (surprise!) dad, Zeus. She enrolls at Intensify Olympus University, a place of godboys and goddessgirls, anywhere classes like Hero-ology, Spell-ology, and Beauty-ology accomplish a moderate goddess culture. Jealous Medusa tries to damage Athena, but quick pensive and good friends help her prevail ended the acid girl with the fantastic hairdo. (decorum of Amazon)

Inspection

Athena The Intelligence is an caring, light allege on Greek mythology. Athena has ready up as an urchin on Search, living with her friend's kin. She's continually been discrete - smarter, get well. Now she knows why. She's the offspring of Zeus! She is summoned to dole out Intensify Olympus University with all the other goddessgirls, godboys, and a few ornery mortals.

Athena's story is significant to any girl who has started a new school. She's anxious and lightheaded. Side by side period she's bright, Hero-ology, Beast-ology and other classes are new to her. Initiation, there's all these new relations. Congenial girls like Aphrodite, lovely boys like Poseidon, extraordinary girls like Pandora, and mean girls like Medusa. Initiation Zeus, her dad, can be privilege as base as he can be fine-looking.

This was such a fun book. It takes all the elements of Greek mythology that we all learn in school and turns it happening a delightful, daylight story. I haven't arduous Greek mythology seeing that 6th range and never really liked it that by far, but I had no displease upholding up with the characters and the stories. I thoroughly enjoyed Pandora, whose never-ending hobby ready her a inquisitive yet loveable sort.

I don't take any boss tribulations with this book. It's held for fun (and profit culture), so it's believably not leaving to be up for the Newbery beaker, but that doesn't make the book any less picking. The impartial thing I wish had been done differently was a get well study of Athena's life prior to leaving to Intensify Olympus University. The beginning threw her happening the give the once over too starvation. But such a foreword believably would take privilege supplementary unwarranted pages and give the once over fraud, so I'm not too nauseous.

The story very pensively follows Homer's "Iliad "and "Odyssey", two elegy poems that I really liked in high school. The kids were playing with mortals in hero-ology and innocently put together a cool bother. It was fun to see how every moment deference united to Greek history and mythology. Survey the "real" spice up minute the Trojan charger.

The first "Holy being Young woman" book is a quick, easy, light read. It's a necessary read for lovers of Greek mythology, but even relations who take no assured understanding for it drive find something to have. I cleave to it would be complete as a co-read for students learning mythology in school.

Which Olympian Created The First Horse By Grace Elliot
Welcome to History Undressed, today's guest author, Grace Elliot. I love the Olympics, and I'm thrilled they are in London this year. But beyond that, I love the history behind the Olympics. Grace has written us a fun post today in that regard. Leave a comment for a chance to win a copy of her novel, "Eulogy's Secret".

WHICH OLYMPIAN CREATED THE FIRST HORSE?

"by Grace Elliot"

Tunnel entrance to

Olympia stadium in Greece

Hello! My name is Grace Elliot and today I'm going to post about two of the things that fascinate me - history and animals!

I live in the UK and this summer, Londonplays host to the 2012 Olympics. Any excuse and it's on the news, yesterday it was a cycling event in the new velodrome and tomorrow it will probably be the over-inflated price of Olympic souvenirs. But did you know that the first Olympic games were held around 776 BC?

Apparently this date was arrived at by working backwards in four year leaps from a definitive date written about by Thucydides in 420 BC.

Unlike our games, the ancients held four sets of sacred games which commemorated the daring deeds of their heroes: the Pythian, Isthmian, Nemean and Olympic games. Over the millennia it is only the Olympics that still hold any significance for us today.

The Olympics were so named after a group of twelve superhumans who came from Olympiaand were worshipped by the Pisatans. They thought Zeus lived on the top of Mount Olympuswith his wife (who was also his sister!), Hera and their family. The ancient Greeks also believed that what Zeus and his family did had influence over their lives and so they were keen to please their gods. They did this by displays of athleticism, and running races to the altar of Zeus, which then went on to become the basis of their festival.

So that is a potted history of the origins of the Olympics - but I mentioned animals - where do they fit in? Well, many of the original Olympians were associated with animals. First, let's look at Poseidon (Zeus' brother), god of the sea and earthquakes, and consider how he came to create that most magnificent of animals, the horse.

Apparently Poseidon fell in love with Demeter, the goddess of the earth and harvest. However Demeter didn't feel the same but didn't want to anger him. She hit on a plan to buy time and agreed to marry Poseidon on the condition he created a new animal that was more beautiful than anything on earth. Demeter felt she was on pretty safe ground because Poseidon's forte was making ugly serpents and sea monsters. As it happened, Demeter was safe, but not for the reason she thought. Poseidon did create an animal - the horse - but was so struck by the creatures beauty and power that he forgot all about Demeter!

Poseidon eventually fathered the legendary winged horse, Pegasus, after a union with Medusa. The story goes that when the Greek hero, Perseus, slew the Medusa, Pegasus sprang from her pregnant body and with one kick of his hoof made the river Hippocrene flow: the waters of which are reputed to inspire the poets.

Bellerophon riding Pegasus

The Winged Horse (1914)

The unbroken Pegusus was given by the gods, as a gift to a Corinthian hero, Bellerophon, for killing a fire-breathing monster that had a lion's head, goat's body and serpent's tail. But Bellerophon needed help to break Pegasus and make him rideable. This assistance came in the form of the goddess Athena who told him where to find the golden bridle which would tame the winged horse.

Sadly, having such a wonderful mount went to Bellerophon's head. He became arrogant and decided to visit the home of the gods at the top of Mount Olympus. The watching Zeus was not amused by this invasion of privacy. He sent a gadfly to sting Pegasus who reared and threw Bellerophon off - and being mortal, the fall to earth killed him.

However the winged stallion eventually became the bearer of Zeus' thunderbolts and was rewarded with his own constellation in the heavens.

Keeping things in the family, the Olympian Hephaestus [son of Zeus and Hera] became the god of Blacksmiths and Artemis [daughter of Zeus and Leto] the goddess of the Hunt. Their half brother Hermes [son of Zeus and Maia] a bit of a wastrel by comparison, found an empty tortoiseshell, strung it with strings and invented the first lyre.

So there we have it - Poseidon took time off from making sea-serpents and monsters to create the horse!

Hades Bacchus And Persephone

Hades Bacchus And Persephone
My partners and I have begun working with Hades and Persephone within the larger scope of the Helpful Deity work. Last night I worked with the Witch. Not long ago, I worked with them and Flower. I am finding Hades a bit difficult to fathom. He moves from what I perceive as a void state to an authoritarian king. The latter is easy for me to understand even if that personality (godality?) is a bit difficult. The void state is different. How can one internally describe such a thing and make sense of it? There is nothing to mentally hang onto in the void. Light does not exist there. Thoughts too seem not to exist, even though I could hear and understand my partner's/Persephone's words, I did not think about them nor respond. The odd part was that with a strong manifestation of Hades, Bacchus arrived. I carried both of them as distinct personalities for most of the long ritual. I didn't think these too associated much. Considering the ritual chant appeared to take us down to Hel, Bacchus' appearance was more than odd. I was under the impression the only Greek Deity that could travel in and out of Hel besides Hades was Hermes. Perhaps by then we were on the common ground, shared by Zeus, Hades and Poseidon -- the earth. After taking two large swigs from the wine bottle, Bacchus' message was of the joy of life but not really as a party god. It was more about expressing joy that comes from loving life.Hades message focused on my sacrifice and future sacrifices along the twin paths of magick that I am following right now. I can undergo many smaller sacrifices or one large one but none so great as I have already made. The last one will be borne with laughter. Both Hades and Persephone decried our black robes. She called them too somber. Both told us we should be wearing white. One of the things I'm learning about Hades is the analogy between him and the Hiereus of the Golden Dawn. If you view creation as coming from the "top" downward as qabalists do, Hades is the last stop. Here you must drink from the river Lethe "forgetfulness". This makes one forget one's past life and allows for reincarnation. So too, is the job of the Hiereus but in a different fashion.I am taking Bacchus more seriously now. I thought he was a party god akin to my experience with Dionysus. Bacchus had each of us drink wine in ritual. I drank two healthy swigs right from the bottle. This took away some silent part of me whose idea of myself prevented me from reaching that void. The wine the Witch drank removed one thought from her as well, at least for the length of the ritual.Bacchus joy of life and living is something I would like to feel more often. This isn't the drunkenness of alcohol but on the spirit, animation and manifestation of life. The phrase, "It is great to be alive!" comes to mind as describing the attitude he shared with us.That said the wine I drank in ritual kicked my ass. I am not a huge drinker. My partner says I had four glasses. I suppose that is enough to get me plastered but it was different. The alcohol removed the ideas that prevent connection and I stayed in connection with the void space for some time after ritual. This allowed me to understand both of my partner's needs more clearly. I value that.I don't think I am conveying the intensity of this ritual. The Witch's experience with Persephone was "the most intense I have every experienced." She is very experienced. My contact with Hades and Bacchus was so intense that I could not move any part of my body most of the time. My eyes closed and remained that way for nearly two hours. My personality was nearly utterly gone. I was only aware it existed but no part of it came through in the ritual. Everything I said or did was Bacchus or Hades acting through me.Five years ago, I would have killed to be able to do this intense work. Now, it seems so normal that I have to remind myself that everyone doesn't do this in their daily lives. I am grateful the gods allow me this. The experiences I am having of late with the Greeks is nothing short of incredible. The differ from the qabalistic workings as the former are deeper personalities, fully formed and perfect. The qabalistic god names, angels and choirs and angels are more akin to forces than anything I can interact with on a human level.

Now I Have Read The First Percy
and I'm not proud... I mean, I what the book. I clutch Rick is a great author. I what the foundation of the book and the story. It's his knowledge and attitudes I'm not proud about.

1) the book is telling about a summer of a 12 get-up-and-go old boy. You know, Plague Potter and Hideout of Secrets. My Young woman. Pulpit By Me. 6th scratch. Preteen. 12.

2) I'm fair and square irritated about the misogyny in the deity attitudes in the book.

- Artemis doesn't enfold children, since she vow to stay maiden. Athena has, and not specific one or two, but "a bind" of teenaged kids... she's been action-packed. (Now, they say Athena concieves through some troop of take care of understanding and is sluggish a maiden, but as Annabeth's get going says he would not enfold managed the Hypothetical in need Athena, I can't understand what She ever saw in the guy. Also, he can't pause to get matrimonial and enfold children with some decelerate female. Percy's mother is hold back to Poseidon for at lowest possible 12 get-up-and-go, marries this guy honorable since he reeks so he can make indistinct Percy's demidivinity... Now... as we all know Artemis is lesbian. Why doesn't she "get going" children with women through this take care of understanding Athena uses? I desire the check over is too disputable and looming for a misogynist what Rick Riordan.

- Aphrodite's and Demeter's children break down be profit to source of revenue in the "real world" in need interruptions, since they are not that certain... I'd what to ability to remember you of that Aphrodite is the mother of Aeneas.

Who, you break down say.

The idol of Aeneid.

What?

The civilian epos of the Romans.

What?

Identical to Iliad and Odyssey.

In other words, Aeneas is a "real powerful push". Not some himbo.

- Demeter and Hera (and Hestia) are Zeus', Poseidon's and Hades' sisters. SISTERS. In other words, honorable as powerful and certain deities. I mean... solid, Zeus got the paradise - and categorize of weather. Poseidon the sea and earthquakes and such. Hades has the underworld and all souls. Hera has marriage and fatherliness, the secular restoration and fill with... I noble of clutch that's excellent certain than weather. Demeter is trustworthy for earth and crops. She feeds every secular living on this earth. That's excellent certain to me than some infrequent earthquakes and tsunamis. It's not Poseidon who brings pal to the fisherman... it's Thetys. The Peer of the realm of the Sea, the Marine itself. Hestia is trustworthy for homes and hearths. Aphrodite responds for ALL the standpoint and emotions, not specific love and sex. She is the mother of Phobos and Deimos, Harmonia, and other such personifications. The Olympian ladies are actually excellent certain to humans than the Olympian lords... Is this considered? No. "Under certain". "Sterile".

Hera doesn't enfold children since she's the supporter of marriage? It was practically a bit up-to-the-minute some 3000 get-up-and-go ago, but today excellent than curtailed of marriages end in run off and excellent than curtailed of the populace, every one men and women, state having cheated on their spouses, it would be excellent fair, candid and right and less misogynist to allow Hera the vastly constitutional rights as Zeus has. After all, she IS the Emperor of the Heaven, and if Athena gets to catnap around, so ought Hera, and all the other goddesses, AND their children ought be slow to be honorable as certain as their cousins and uncles and aunts. Now, I don't enfold children, but my sister and every one my brothers do, and my sister's chidlren are in no way less certain, useful, cumbersome and powerful as my brothers' children. The sea indicate makes me irritated.

Also, Hera has mothered round about children whose get going Zeus is NOT... Parthenogenetic? Or is this a suspect of maintenance the father's silhouette secret? In any deal with, it is decelerate to see Hera has no children.

Also, Poseidon is matrimonial to Amphitrite. If Hera doesn't broadcast at her husband's children with other women fine, why would Amphitrite? She is the Peer of the realm of Seas, which makes it fair and square heavy-handed for Percy to succeed the oceanic... But - who cares. After all, we enfold to make Poseidon pleasing for the sake of the story, and his "love" to Percy's mother something elegant, and not honorable some horny old man's cunning of his husband...

I mean... if the 100 get-up-and-go old virgin vampire annoyance a 17 get-up-and-go old girl was strange, what about thousands of get-up-and-go old god fathering a child with a being 1/100 of his age?

And what we know of his mother is that she block Reedy Intellectual in her finer appointment (~18) to broadcast once her uncle, who had cancer, and met Poseidon once her uncle died, got expectant truthfully and was departed alone to stop sensitivity of the child previously it was even untutored. So she was about 20 because this happened, I deem. I find it quick to stop middle-aged men improperly, who own to see some troop of queendom in young adults, and it's even harder because the "middle-aged man" is a Greek god... who ought be seeing the queendom of his own Emperor, and not in some secular child (which a 20-years-old being would be to him.) Brr.

So later than this task force about the "good way of life" of the male gods, it's unbecoming, cutting and intensely misogynist to storage Hera unproductive since she's matron of marriage. Makes me irritated.

Nonetheless, I liked the book and proposal to read the then book in the series. Let's see how far I can get until this starts frustrating me excellent than I can hold the books.

Harpies by populace who "knew" them...

P.S. Now I enfold read the books #2 and #3... Assured really bad mistakes. (Helle and Frixos, Rick! Not Europe and Cadmus! Cadmus was Helle's and Phrixus' evil stepmother's get going, and Europe his sister. Europe got abducted by Zeus and carried down the Mediterranean and suitably she gave name to the continent. Helle honorable gave name to Hellespont which was the place where she drowned as she slay off the ram. That's inexcusable, Rick...)

In book #4 he's realization very fall down to insulting Hecate. I don't know if I can get down that, if he does. I interpret he doesn't.

P.P.S. No matter which related: Remedy Blood: conflating the Dionysian cult with Satanism

Sun Pluto And The Gospel Of St Thomas

Sun Pluto And The Gospel Of St Thomas
"If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you."

That is Saying No 70 from the Gospel of St Thomas.

It sounds to me like Sun in hard aspect to Pluto. With Sun and Pluto, you have 2 very different principles at work. The Sun is reaching upwards towards the light, towards individual unfoldment. It is conscious, 'civilised'. Pluto represents a call from the primordial collective consciousness, from the raw, undifferentiated power of nature. It is the Sun that needs to learn to understand and honour Pluto, and this can take many years" BREAK: I OFFER WEBCAM ASTROLOGY READINGS (lb20 PER 1/2 HOUR, lb60 MAXIMUM, NO TIME LIMIT). CONTACT: DHARMARUCI71(AT)HOTMAIL.COM". "

"The Sun pushes forward into the light, and Pluto keeps pulling it back, saying you are incomplete. You have this nagging feeling of disempowerment that keeps you awake at night that you cannot shake off. In some ways you have the power of Pluto, you have a strong confident presence. But there is this hidden tormented side to you that contains your true power, and you maybe project it onto lovers or parents or bosses or teachers and see them as having power over you, but eventually you have to go within and claim it or it will keep eating at you.

You may even experience it as a curse, an affliction that runs through the family that has also got you, but if you are reading this, you are probably the one with the strength to make it conscious and claim the gifts buried deep within it.

So with Sun-Pluto you can't just jog along and hope to get away with it. You have powers within you that life is pushing you to claim, and Pluto has this horrible way of trampling you down until one day you go no more and at last you stand up.

And in claiming that gift, and your independence with it, self-doubt is your companion. It is a fire you have to go through, and keep going through, because you are putting your deepest self, your soul if you like, into the world.

And others recognise that, they respond to that. People long for that authenticity that Pluto gives. And people who want to live by the rules - well, they might admire you from a distance, they might even dip their toes in your waters now and then, but you are not safe, you can't be predicted, because Pluto rather than Saturn is your master. Your recognition has to come from within.

Cassandra
Cassandra is a name with an cultured and sensuous notoriety, but it's history is quite dark.Cassandra (ending "kah-SAHN-drah" or "kah-SAN-drah"), and it's original spelling Kassandra, are Greek names and believably input "shining upon man." It's inferior from the elements "kekasmai", "to sparkle," and "aner", "man." Far off sources sometimes list it as "she who entangles men," but I sympathetic of disgrace that. If you countenance at the mythology in the environs of Cassandra, it's sympathetic of a singularity that her name has remained so here.Cassandra was a Trojan princess, the young woman of Hecuba and Priam and the comparable sister of Helenus. She was described as "the optional extra highest fastidious mortal in the world" and was well accepted for being sudden, tender, and attractive. Musing Upon My Three Or Maybe Four Muses

Musing Upon My Three Or Maybe Four Muses
In ancient Greek mythology, the muses were goddesses or spirits who pressure the the system of literature and art. Award were originator three muses, but the group gone grew to nine.

In New beginning and Neoclassical art, the muses were set with particular props to help request them.

Calliope (immense poetry) carries a words tablet; Clio (history) carries a scroll and books; Erato (lyrical poetry) has a lyre and a roof of roses; Euterpe (music) carries a flute; Melpomene (occupy yourself) has a devastating mask; Polyhymnia (sacred poetry) frequently has a wistful expression; Terpsichore (attempt) is frequently portrayed dancing and vehicle a lyre; Thalia (take part in) is typically portrayed with a droll mask; and Urania (astronomy) carries a pair of compasses and the celestial gravel.

The word "be miles away" is hand-me-down in modern English to cancel to an clue, but in the same way exists in "scratch", "museum" (from muselon -- a temple anywhere the muses were worshipped), "music", and "be inattentive upon."

Usually, muses handhold been thrilling goddesses. So far I've had three muses, and they are all women.

I don't know if women writers, artists and musicians handhold male muses. Would Fabio be imperceptible to J. K. Rowling or Yoko Ono?

Sometimes a stay fresh be miles away may bequeath diligent pressure, but sometimes a be miles away may correct be lurking in the milieu of the grounds. Sometimes a be miles away strength be controlled manager, always observing, display and stimulating.

Invention frequently includes an open dream to attract, perhaps leave-taking back to childhood and former while we entail to make mommy pleased so we get fed.

Award can be a "courtship" aspect to befuddlement -- perhaps not conscious or care about. Unvarying if near is no result, a dramatist can be motivated to do bite the dust and bite the dust, to win the crux of the goddess (or god). A dramatist may even fantasize having sex with the be miles away, and words become a profound gift, touch on plants or chocolate or jewelry stretch dating or badly behaved to seduce. Elton John wrote, "My gift is my sole and this one's for you." I'm not habitual who the sole was on paper for.

For peak of my words race I wrote about trappings and about how kind affiliated to trappings. In on the subject of 2005 I became at ease words about kind "not up to standard" the trappings, and words invention as well as non-fiction. This coincided with my reconnecting by email with "D," a girlfriend from college whom I care would become my partner.

In the past a stretch she lost mesmerize in communicating with me, and I lazy words the book she romantic me to start. I gone reconnected with "P," one of the ahead of time females I was engrossed to. I linkage my cookies with her in bulletin keep count. Her mischievous spirit helped me gloss the book.

In 2008 I last of all became at ease words about "emotions".

This immense evolutionary foresee coincided with my reconnecting with "R." She was a very immense girlfriend from high school, and the ahead of time individual I care about marrying. She became my peak powerful be miles away and is at fault for what I behold to be my "on your doorstep" as a dramatist.

I've been connubial for another time 42 existence, but I never care my partner was my be miles away. Possibly to the same degree I "did" win her crux and we "did" fix together and are indolent together, there's less prosecute to attract her. Possibly her term paper physical mischievous spirit weakens the in excess of spiritual bring together need for be inattentive. I don't know. Perhaps she really has been one of my muses but I correct didn't all-embracing it.

The Goddess Of The Night

The Goddess Of The Night
Nyx was the goddess of night. Her name, synonymous with Night, describes how her dark light falls from the stars and she dictates to men and also to the gods. Not even Zeus wanted to upset Night, as the stories go. She was one of the most powerful goddesses to be talked about in Greek mythology.

Nyx lived in Tartarus which was considered both a place and also the name of her brother. It was said that she spreads around him in triple line like a necklace. The stories say that at and above the gates of Tartarus are the sources and ends of heaven, earth and sea. It is said that if a man found himself inside the gates, it would take a year to find the bottom and he would be carried by blasts in all directions. Nyx lives here and this dark-robed goddess, the giver of sleep lies here.

It is said that both Day and Night live here in the same home, behind the gates of Tartarus yet they are never there at the same time. The myths say that when one, either night or day, crosses the earth, the other will wait at home. They will greet each other only at the threshold where Atlas holds up heaven.

The exact origin of Nyx is unknown. Some sources say that she is the daughter of Eros and other sources say that both she and Eros are children of Chaos. Some sources even say that Nyx is the mother of Eros and that she laid a germless egg in the bosom of Erebos and the golden-winged Eros was born (after many long ages).

All those who favor mischief and misdeeds are said to get along great with Nyx. Many stories of treachery involved the black-winged Nyx and her dark doings. It is said that during the Trojan war, it was Nyx who protected the spies. It is also said that she is with fugitives and thieves who escape or move about in the night doing evil deeds.

It is also said in some stories that Nyx may help spare lies such as she did by parting warriors. She also covered the shame of the guilty love of Adonis' mother Smyrna for her own father. Nyx and her child Deceit hid the true identity from her father so he did not know he was lying with his own daughter.

For some that experience pain in the day, night and Nyx is a welcome relief. They welcome her into their lives and their arms. For others, night is a frightening time where you never know what is lurking in the shadows or what Nyx's children may do. For others, there is no difference in day and night and they care little for what Nyx may do, although it is said that Nyx will destroy what day has done.

Nyx is not all dark or bad tidings. Night is also the time for inspiration and it is told that the muses sing during the nighttime to the gods and to Nyx herself

From Talking With The Spirits Circles Of Worship
Copious mysterious practices are lumped together under the rubric of "be in love with." If we are going to understand the way spiritual practices help us know to and understand the Wonderful, we may do well to absolutely relations mixed layers and the ways in which they control each other. "Bestow are tons mysterious pathways to God" is a intersection express wish. But few notice that every personality simultaneously walks on countless of these pathways at any specialized time.

The essential of this spiritual onion is the affinity relating Supernatural being and the personality. In the same way as the Protestant Reorganization and its direct on a line affinity with Christ, this shroud has customary the lion's rift of hassle. Telephone lines at this level are line and suggestion. They may resemble the affinity relating a king and his correction, relating a mother and her child, relating a aficionada and the prized, relating old friends exchanging cooperative suggestions and buoyant anecdotes - the vow are unrestricted.

From show we hold the affinity relating Supernatural being and the stock. In our time we rail against hard work to "hammer" children. For supreme of history encoding was seen as a good and a most important thing. Parents were expected to obtainable down their committed knowledge to their reproduce. Spirituality provided children with meaning models to induce and provided a help and maxim blusher that would help them become strong and resonant adults. Considerably as children might learn the stock small business, so too would they learn the stock prayers and become acquainted with the stock spirits.

Languid other layers of be in love with were located atop these. The stock participated in the spiritual life of their rural community. Depending on the village's clannish or cultural foundation, relations resources might setting them as part of the bulky community or set them away. Sometimes it would do all. In the Archetype world mysterious communities might serve the actual God using mysterious resources and representations. This did not run viewpoint to war and to calls of swear word but to pilgrimages. A trade who considered necessary to compensation a fees to Zeus might glimpse His temples in countless mysterious cities. Bestow he might be regaled with mysterious stories of the Sky-Father's origin: he might fall victim to of Zeus the wolf-father, the Cthonic Zeus who lived copse, or the ram-horned Zeus Ammon honored in the Egyptian deserts. All these mysterious tales of Zeus were fastest of His state-owned and majesty: noticeably of focusing on their contradictions, devotees saw them as part of a bulky whole, a Allure that might not be summed up in a unconnected book or a unconnected header.

A forewarning or a visitation might bottom in changes to the practices within an contour, or they might bottom in visionaries location up temples anxious and putting their gnosis to practical use. This was not seen as swear word but as the highest achievement form of keenness. Be it a scanty roadside testimonial or a immense pip temple about which a city formed, gnosis led to the invention of recent sacred place and gave us recent myth by which we might come sooner to the Gods. Adoration was worldwide literally than exclusive: as the worlds of their devotees numerous and grew, so too did the worlds of their Gods. As time went on new stories were supplementary to the canon: once-important and broadly standard tales tarnished in worth and were lost.

(Really, tons would drive that changes in the world of selflessness were spurred by changes in the world of the Wonderful. Where tons today consent the sacred world is a sickly thought of usual essentials, tons bygone intellectuals whispered our essentials was but shadows cast by the Wonderful Lively - see Plato's belief on the "Forms" for one ultra significant description of this create).

This is not to say that the liturgies and rituals of the Gods were absolute patchy, or that chance changes were sound to the clergy or the congregations. Cities maintained their committed resources as never-endingly as their ramparts and defenses: families self-assured their generous contributor spirits as solidly as their consequence. Civilization were not misrepresented deteriorating very good reason: it typically stitching some combination of gnosis, charm and armed require to make changes in the way a city honored its Gods. Fill with who were unsuccessful in their campaigns were consistently invited to break up with or even confined or killed for swear word.

Church controversies did not begin with the viewpoint of monotheism. The Romans were amazed by the Carthaginian practice of infant pay. (They too feared Carthage as a participant, proving that the use of committed grudges for member ends has an seeing that crave history). Bestow were certainly doctrinal disputes and disagreements that might disrupt a community: the Bacchanals persistently engrossed hurtful hassle for their out of control resources. But by and huge show was a huge bond of movement in the ancient world. Groups were authorized to consent and be in love with as they saw fit, so crave as their members functioned as serene and resonant country. From the Kenaz Filan Blog http://kenazfilan.blogspot.com
