Save Sheffields Lama

Bodhinaga writes:

Please sign and share this PETITION to help save SHEFFIELD BUDDHIST CENTRE'S (UK) most unusual new sangha member. Lama Rinzin is a Tibetan monk and thangka painter who faces deportation from Britain to Tibet or Nepal, where the situation is becoming increasingly difficult for Tibetan Buddhist monks and nuns.

The Sheffield sangha have really taken Lama Rinzin to heart, and he has become a very special part of our sangha, with his love of the Dharma, his quiet dignified presence, and his infectious laughter.

Lama Rinzin is a highly skilled Buddhist painter from the Karma Kagyu tradition. He fled Tibet and then Nepal, following the 2008 protests in Lhasa. By chance the Home Office sent him to Sheffield, doors away from the Sheffield Buddhist Centre, where he has now become a much loved and valued member of our sangha.

His application for asylum in the UK was originally turned down, but he has been granted a tribunal hearing on 16th August, where his case will be re-assessed.

Lama Rinzin regularly attends meditation and Dharma classes at the Centre, as well as sangha retreats. He's made friends with many sangha members. He's also become an adopted member of the men's community above the Centre, where he is working on a painting of the Buddha Amitabha for Bodhinaga. For this he has refused payment, saying he wants to paint it out of gratitude and as an offering for world peace.

He says: "I very grateful to Sheffield sangha, they all very warm heart. I think Sangharakshita help many people. I would like to meet. Thank you for compassion."

Lama Rinzin has painted for monasteries in Tibet, Nepal and most recently in London. Now the sangha in Sheffield want as many people as possible to sign the PETITION to demonstrate their support and help him stay in Sheffield, where he would be safe and can contribute to the sangha through his beautiful thangka paintings and his calm, compassionate presence.
